I would concur. I was slightly disappointed that it does indeed seem to be a standard dash with the leather plastered straight on top, but as Sarg has just suggested, it does pave the way to potentially doing it aftermarket and it should look no different.

The D3 is the same, with the leather on top, so some of the plastic fittings aren't quite as flush as they should be.

Yes - Seems to me that one of the many good TVR trimmers could be a starting point for this, given the nature of thier typical work on later Griffs', Chimeras and Cerberas.

I recall seeing the original 6 Series BMW with the extended leather option, and it looked nice, if a little homemade..

I saw this back in 2019 on Facebook by a company called M-Art. I think they are Croatian.

A nicely hidden logo above the cluster.

Theres a guy on the polish d2 group that has a suade covered dash with red stiching, it makes it look like a golf GTI but this one is tasteful.

Had a few Audis over the years, mostly early stuff, newest was a D3 prior to my D4, nothing much kept me smitten with other marques so I floated about a bit from one thing to another until that four ring lure caught hold

A bit more progress on this, including liberating the dash.

Genuine heated screen, which these days is worth more than the rest of the car!

Botang's hole which caused much of the sadness in the cabin. Since the dash is out its trivial to pull the electronics box and fix this now for the next owner

Along with loads of general crud in the raintray

and in the electronics box, which someone had attacked with silicone, trying to fix the leak in completely the wrong place

Tape removed

3D printed grommet fitted, which ought to seal the hole on its own

Coated in seam sealer to be sure

The previous perpetrator had snapped the stud holding the front of the electronics box so I might as well fix it while its out

Grind off the stump and drill a hole

Rivnut

The fuses are badly corroded from moisture so these were replaced

Verdigris on the fuse holder terminals. All these were thoroughly cleaned with contact cleaner, as were all the electronics box connectors

Ship shape again

The rear bracket for the header tank is broken off. I've never seen this before but I assume it is from some gorilla leaning on the rusted screw trying to get it out. This is a future-owner problem.

Excellent, good to see that you're now well enough to start tackling your own stuff in the workshop, but be careful not to overdo it!
Obviously there's additional motivation here of "removing the object you bought from its packaging" Like Christmas but nearer Easter.

Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)

And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Yay!! More WITW!!

I've not seen the word "verdigris" used in a very long time.
Thank you for reacquainting me with it

I guess you didn't fancy the hassle of transplanting that windscreen whilst you're in there.
It would have looked good in Red Dwarf
