Default Audi A8 4.2 Quattro Sport 1996

A8 4.2 Quattro Sport

Silver with black interior, usual sport extras

One of the last 4 speed cars, I've had it for just over 2 years and done about 9k in that time.

145,720 miles recorded which will rise as I'm using it. There is some service history though not enough to verify the mileage.

I've sorted some of its issues but, as usual, it keeps providing more.
Cosmetically it's a 10 yard car. Most panels have had attention at some point from persons of variable talent.

Interior is pretty good though typically the centre armrests are missing.

It has MoT until 4th May 2018 and does drive quite well.
The tyres are fairly recent (< 3k) and are a huge improvement though not a premium brand.

In my ownership
- New thermostat and coolant flush.
- Breather hoses replaced (non-original)
- Oil and filter changes
- Gearbox oil change
- OSF wheel bearing
- Rear suspension links, track rod ends and 4 wheel alignment.
- Brake caliper slides freed and lubricated
- Various minor electrical gremlins dealt with.
- Drains cleared
- New tyres

The issues:
-Engine oil leak(s). I've done the cam covers, which were leaking, but the big leak(s) seem to be from the camshaft oil seals, especially the RH bank.
- Recently started clonking from front right. One of the balljoints no doubt.
- A/C only holds gas for a few days. Condensor has been renewed, suspect evaporator. System works well when there is gas in it.
- Windscreen cracked. Not in drivers field of view. I can get this renewed on insurance if someone wants the car as a going concern.
- Ignition key different from the rest.
- Brake pad warning light on (pads fine)
- Airbag system non-functional. Has resisted repair - ECU/sensor and seat belt pre-tensioner replaced. Only one fault code remaining relating to the warning light itself - which works!
- Occasional ABS warning light. Clears if switched off/on. May happen twice in one day or not for 9 months.

I will be sad to see it go as I like driving it and it's never let me down. However, I have a C4 A6 as my daily driver and also a full blown restoration project (Triumph GT6) on the go, so really don't have the time and energy spare to deal with it's outstanding issues and the inevitable OCD-related mission creep!

Entry level A8 ownership for the mechanically able..... as a rolling restoration or drive-home parts donor (pity IMO, not so many left now).
£ 750 - ish or reasonable offers. Car located in south Somerset (TA13)

Too high a price? Probably. I will haggle, but I'll not give it away either, I know what the engines go for......

Too honest with description? Probably. So be it.

Gone.....

Now A8 free zone

Just the old faithful A6 (C4 2.5 TDI) left. Which needs a DMF

I will have another D2 but I'll find a decent one next time and probably a 2.8 2WD as I find the general waftiness more useful than brute urge, which mostly you don't get to use on this congested island. Fuel is not going to get any cheaper....
