If I paint mine it will be body colour, but raw aluminium will probably be more subtly stylish.

Would it not be wise to add some sort of gasket to the back of these to prevent rubbing and reduce the risk of any long-term damage?

It barely moves now so any sort of wear will be negligible I think. Plus adding any kind of compressible material in there would reduce its effectiveness.

Default Installed/upgraded

I've installed the MJ brake block upgrade. It fitted perfectly. Once the strut brace was bolted back in place, I didn't see any movement. I could definitely feel more bite to the brakes but I was only driving around in my residents car park area, due to the current lock-down. Apologies for no photos in situ as my phone battery died.

Just fitted mine too. The cover fits back OK without any trimming, though mine was already missing one leg of the clip onto the strut brace so does have more freedom to flex.

Maybe it was brain fade but at first I couldn't get it to slip into place and thought I'd have to take the whole strut brace out!
But just remove both bolts completely and lift the end of the brace up a few mm; that gives just enough room to wiggle the block in from the centre of the car. It can't go in from the outside due to the taper on the brace.

A very snug fit; with the bolts just hand-tight there was a 1-2mm gap between the brace and it's mounting. The bolts tightened up very satisfactorily with the block then firmly locked in place.

I removed the 2 bolts from each end of the brace, moved it towards the near side, slotted the block onto the brace and then reversed the procedure. No issue with the fit or any fiddling about.

After a couple of fairly short test drives, the peddle travel is definitely reduced and the ‘sponginess’ is reduced a lot as well. Much more confident braking and an absolute bargain at £30!

Yes, I thought I'd need to do something like that but managed with just one end freed.

Maybe after investing £30 in the block I'll invest another £30 (well slightly less) in a months tax, just to get a "driving fix".

Default Photos or it didn't happen haha

I've just taken some photos of the waterjet-cut solid aluminium brake block in place. It hasn't moved by even a millimetre! I thoroughly recommend this coveted MJ upgrade - in my opinion, the A8s should have come out from the factory like this - braking and feel is much improved.

I just installed mine, I've only driven the car about 700 miles since getting it (so havent got a proper feel for it yet) but I can already tell the 'slack' in the pedal has been greatly reduced to almost nothing. Also the fit and finish matches the rest of the car tbh. good job Mikki!

Installed mine today.

Short test drive along my daily commute route.

And WOW!

Honestly expected something along the lines of a slight improvement that you'd need to be paying close attention to notice. But no, seriously, this easy mod shortens the pedal travel, reduces the inherent sponginess and makes braking feel much more akin to the sharpness of the D3.

Feels like I've just upgraded the whole brake system. Over the moon. I've spent lots of 35 pounds on my D2 but this is definitely the most and best value for money to date. And especially for the time it takes.

Thanks MJ for going to the bother of manufacturing these!

Gregor

(Yes, I did replace the bolts )
