Wheel advice
Hi All
My 8 is now due a set of tyres and before I change them I need to sort out my wheels. When I last had them balanced the tyre chap told me the spare and one of the rears was slightly out of shape . Although you would never know this from driving the car, no vibration from the rear). I assume pothole damage before I bought the car! So question is... can this be repaired or is it scrap? There are a couple of firms stating they can fix this in the web, has anyone had this done? alternatively, I have been watching the auction sites for a second hand one to replace the rear but they only seem to come up for the RS6 which I believe is a different offset. My wheels are the five spoke sport type and in good condition visually anyway! I did consider after market wheels and changing them all but it seems extreme and costly and some of the quality is questionable if you don't part with a lot of cash. So any pointers or firms that might be worth a try to get at least one straightened: in and around the Midlands would be appreciated I can always leave one with them to get this done. On the tyre front I have been offered a cracking deal on some Bridgestones through a contact of a friend. 225/40/19 Potenza S001's anyone had experience of these?? I have previously had the standard fit Dunlop Sports which had been ok but seem to wear quick and I have been warned they have a tendancy to go out of shape (Audi dealer mentioned this at the last service)! Also would like to try a non directional tyre so I can swap them around more to even out the wear I don't know if the Bridgestone are but need to check this out! Any input appreciated Cheers Glyn Last edited by Glync; 6th March 2012 at 05:21 PM. |

Be very careful if you go for aftermarket wheels, some are not strong enough to take the weight of the car

Thanks mate
That's what I had decided tbh I have seen some very poor castings and it would worry me to know I had them on the car. Having said that the Audi wheels are so damn expensive to replace. I just need one decent rim to replace mine but they appear to be on the rare side of rocking horse doings for the 8 |

There are companies who can repair alloy wheels, anything from bashed rims to cracks

225/40/19 is quite a bit out from what you should be running (255/35/19), so your speedo will read wrong and handling will be down a little.

Erm... so it would
Though, still 30mm narrower than it should be, might not make much of a difference normally, but you never know.

Depends on the rim width, which I don't know, but you may.
225's would normally fit on anything from 7" to 8.5". Remember that 225mm is less than 9" so would be very doubtful on 9" rims...
