Default Scary Brakes On My D2 S8.

I picked up my 2001 S8 3 days ago.

I knew the front discs were warped, from the test drive. A fair bit of judder upon braking from above 60 mph.

I came up to a rotunda this arvo, and scared myself silly. So much brake fade, my arse was off the driver's seat by the time the car came to a stop. The pads are quite thick.

So my question is - would warped discs cause so much fade, or would it be the particular pads that are fitted the culprit? I have no idea what a stock D2 S8 with Brembo's is like, I've only ever driven mine.

What pads do you guys use with good results, and recommend? I'm buying new discs too, what's the best option, bar Audi's super expensive items?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Can you brake hard enough to cause the ABS to kick in?

Could be that the pads were changed, but the disks needed it too and you're not getting enough travel as a 2001 S8 should have pretty good brakes.

I just put a set of Pagid pads and disks all round on mine from eurocarparts (who often have some great special offers).

Hi,

Have just replaced my front discs and pads on Friday,I bought them from GSF,at a cost of around, i think £160ish,they are Brembo discs and Bosch pads.

Had a nightmare with one of the caliper allen bolts being cross threaded at some point in its life, but apart from that ,a doddle to do.

Only driven around 40 miles or so but all seems fine,no squealling etc

As for brake fade etc,I dont really hammer it around for longish periods to sample that, spirited driving as when suitable thou at times they seem adequate for the job.

Some of the other owners have upgraded theirs,so I expect they will be along with another tale or two

I haven't attempted braking hard to the point of activating ABS, but worth a try. Replacing the pads and discs may well be the way forward.

Thanks for your advice.
