Default Noise from the rear when parked...

This has happened a few times to me since ive had the A8.

Basically ill park the car up, lock it and then there is a very lound whining noise which if you follow, leads to the rear wheels. Its like a motor whirring. After around 10 seconds of whirring, you will hear the handbrake apply, and then also release. Now i dont use the handbrake i just leave it in park, so i dont think its an issue with the handbrake - which i may add also works flawlessly in traffic when i leave it in D.

A bit of googling has lead me to me believe that the rear pads re-seat every few thousand miles so they sit closer to the disc, and the whirring is the pads adjusting.

Is this correct or is my car a little bit broken haha

It's calibrating handbrake if you just leave it 'Park'. You really should be using handbrake every time you park. If you leave it in 'Park' without handbrake on slope it puts unnecessary strain to transmission.

If youre leaving the EPB off but putting the car in P and then leaving the car and locking it, it will do a calibration, one side at a time. Takes about a minute per side as it winds all the way in and out rather than the small travel it normally takes to apply the brake. So as Ainars says, make sure you engage the EPB when you park it and it will make a quick noise at it engages and then stay silent thereafter
