Default LED's Number plate lights

Lads, another post.

I replaced the dreaded corroded boot lid handle with a brand new part. Had to order the number plate lights which i did and they worked fine except they had a very dim yellow hue off them. I went to Halfords today and picked up a pair of their off the shelf bulbs for 15 quid. Fitted them but they're flickering and not coming on.

Have I tried to short route around on this in that the direct replacement LED's aren't designed for this application?

Tried reading a few posts here but can't make sense of it....

Hi.

LED's are polarity-sensitive, so...with the lights switched on, try plugging the LED's in t'other way. and see if thy spark into life.
This worked on my Range Rover number plate lights (LED's) this morning to get through the MOT!

Good luck! I hope your solution is just as simple....

Many LED festoons don't have a load resistor and heatsink to trick the bulb check into thinking the bulb is still there (LEDs on their own don't pull enough power). The lights are then disabled until the ignition is cycled.
You need the type with either the metal fins or the ones that look cast in ceramic (these are a better fit) I find they are a little bright so turn them round 45 degrees.

I recently did exactly this, new boot handle and LED bulbs from ebay. Working perfectly, I'll try and find the link

It's weird because I had the normal bulb and an LED in and it worked OK. When I went just now to replace the other one with an LED now neither work.....gremlins...

If LEDs are a problem why not just use normal filament bulbs?
The rear numberplate is yellow after all (in the UK anyway) so LED lighting is a bit pointless. I gave up on it ages ago for that particular function.
And the OEM bulbs Audi use seem to last forever.
