When Ben had my car in for a service he refused to use any other spark plug then the platinum tipped (IIRC) ones from Audi, so that's what I have currently.

I'm a big NGK fan myself, using the only dailies and racer.

Their website used to have a big database of cars, and their nkg codes. There is also a break down of the codes, if you want to work out what differs between an s8 and an a8 4.2 plug.

The 4 prong ones are for long life - electricity takes the shortest route, and your doing well if you split it into 4 sparks!!!!

Singh - may I ask how much the audi ones where? As I have a receipt for the previous owner paying £12EACH for plugs + labour! But don't know what he got for his money.

Hi there,

Well i still have the NGK R BKR6EQUP and they will probably clean up. I'd guess the missfire and crappy timining would account for the fouling so they are probably ok.

Howver i just went for a punt on the BKR6EIX iridium ones as they suposdily produce a better spark and cope with LPG better.

The 11 moniker is for bigger electrode and wider gap, so steer well clear of those. Not sure about the specific LPG ones as i think they are just designed to last longer and you should get 60-100k off plugs by what i've read so, i'll skip that. £48 inc postage as the guy charges one off shipping for upto 16 !!!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I'll report back how it goes !

I can't remember now as I had a full service and some gearbox seals replaced at the same time. But Ben was adamant we only used Audi plugs so I agreed, I do remember they were quite a bit more then I could have got non Audi ones for. I think he mentioned something about without Audi ones the cylinders would run hotter. I'm sure he will be along soon to advise further.

It is Bosch and if you buy them they are identical to the Audi ones. I will dig out a link to an online store that sells them £3 ish a unit cheaper than Audi. Might take a while.......

Hi There,

Well the Iridium IX just turned up at my office. Damn quick service. Rather impressed. Yep. They look like spark plugs....Less grubby than my old ones, but is still just a spark plug !

Will try them when i get a working engine !

Lee

Hi Bosch spark plug HGR7KQC fits A8 and S8 4.2 and 3.7 to 98, FGR6KQE fits A8 and S8 4.2 and 3.7 98 on. Bosch are the OE supplier so what yoy get from Audi is Bosch with the Audi symbol embossed on the plug. I work for GMF motor factors in South Wales we stock them and they are £3.26 + vat each for the first part number and £5.34 + vat for the second part number.
