I don't think CP or recoding is the limitation here.
They have a ''contract or connection'' with Audi and remove CPs all the time. They have VAS, VCDS and the new software which has replaced VAS, all genuine. They don't mess around hence they are one of the best if not the best and most honest garage in London. Unless there is some specific device costing tens of thousands of pounds which only dealer is allowed to have, hence the swap is required if you dont want to pay £10k+ for new gearbox with Audi.

That seems really mental
I'm not doubting their ability/knowledge at all, by the way. Wasn't sure if they had all the dealer level kit but seeing as they do clearly there's more to it. I wonder if there's anyone in Eastern Europe who can remove the need for coding from the gearbox ECU? A lot of used parts on ebay have CP completely erased before sale, so the car never looks for it. Don't know how they achieve that mind.....

From what I understand you can code mechatronic which includes the driver, but only if it's new - £4.5k, soooo...hence the swap of bits is required.
Are there any checks (such as output test) you can do on VCDS to test certain components to eliminate electronics and confirm mechanical failure. I don't want to drive to Adam all the way just to do a quick scan and drive back home if there are any additional tests we can do. I'm good no anyway i just don't want to waste an opportunity for him.

Wish you both best of luck.
Hope that diagnosis and repair stay cheap.

There isn't any selective output tests, whether the TCU allows a sequential output test I've not looked.
When testing with VCDS measuring blocks to note are these: MVB 5 Display zone 1: Solenoid valve 1 -N88 Reverse/first/second/third gear: off Fourth/fifth/sixth gear: on Display zone 2: Activation pressure regulating valve 1 -N215 (for clutch A) Display range: 0 to ... mA Display zone 3: Activation pressure regulating valve 2 -N216 (for clutch B) Display range: 0 to ... mA MVB6 Display zone 1: Activation pressure regulating valve 3 -N217 (for brake C) Display range: 0 to ... mA Display zone 2: Activation pressure regulating valve 4 -N218 (for brake D/clutch E) Display range: 0 to ... mA Display zone 3: Activation pressure regulating valve 5 -N233 (for ATF system pressure) ATF: Gear oil Display range: 0 to ... mA Display zone 4: Activation pressure control valve 6 -N371 (for converter clutch) Display range: 0 to ... mA MVB 7 Display zone 3: Torque converter clutch status Converter clutch open: TCC open Converter clutch regulating/slipping: TCC control Converter clutch closed: TCC closed Fingers crossed for you mate.

Adam, guys sorry for such a late update, had a truly nightmare way back with major road closure, traffic and being stuck on residential road for precisely 2h5min - 800yards with no escape whatsoever.
And Audi's TMC is just not worth a w*nk. Rant over. Back to the subject. So there was only one code in the gearbox: Address 02: Auto Trans Labels: 09L-927-760.lbl Control Module Part Number: 4E0 910 156 F HW: 09L 927 156 Component and/or Version: AG6 09L 3.0lTDI RdW 0090 Software Coding: 0000001 Work Shop Code: WSC 02313 785 00200 VCID: 25411E01EC6EF869BA-8070 1 Fault Found: 17167 - Shift Monitoring P0783 - 001 - 3-4 Shift Freeze Frame: Fault Status: 01100001 Fault Priority: 0 Fault Frequency: 6 Reset counter: 40 Mileage: 247064 km Time Indication: 0 Date: 2017.02.08 Time: 12:37:05 Freeze Frame: RPM: 2048 /min RPM: 1728 /min RPM: 1152 /min (no units): 10.0 (no units): 71.0 Temperature: 62.0°C T.B. Angle: 29.4° Please also see attached full scan and measuring blocks video. The only thing I have noticed there is that some of the pressure control valves have 0.050A reading where others 0.850A. They were taken while engine was running. After clearing the only gearbox fault, as expected, there was still no drive at all, D or reverse, but also the fault did not come back. When selecting gears there was no weird noises or anything abnormal. I will be sending all the attachments to Audi guys to clarify if these were the symptoms/faults/values with the knackered gearboxes they previously has to replace especially on 3.0TDi. After a bit of googling, info on all websites is almost identical for the same symptoms of no drive: - low/burned oil - damaged wiring - 3-4 shift solenoid failure - TCM or PCM internal failure If it's wiring, happy days. Solenoid, happy days ish as there is no need to remove gearbox I doubt it's oil, but if so then a fairly low cost, £350ish TCM or PCM I don't know. Full scan was done after clearing that only one fault on its own, running the engine, attempt to select the gear, ignition off and on.

My goodness, I'm late to this party and I apologise. I'm really sorry to hear of your troubles and hope there's a speedy and not wallet-busting end in sight.
Two things from me: 1) I'm fairly close to you, so let me know if there's anything I can do. I have VCDS (although I'm still learning how to use it) 2) If it is the mechatronic unit, it can be refurbished like mine was. Chester Transmissions did mine, but they're part of FATE, which has places dotted around the country. The nearest one I found to us is in Hertfordshire. I visited there after a suspected leak and they have ZF plaques all over the place and were really friendly. I think I posted their details before if you need them. Best of luck. |

Thanks for the info Matt and the offer Tony. It seems the scans don't point directly to a smoking gun. Likely need is to trailer the car for further rummaging. Grateful to Marcin for his invaluable in involvement.

If it is a gearbox swap, I read somewhere recently that VAG Can Pro was used to read the flash from the original TCU and then this binary was reflashed to the new/used gearbox for it to work. So if there are software problems with used boxes in different cars there are solutions.
