I have a spare "hedgehog" and was planning to swap it if the problem becomes frequent.
But once or twice in 13 months doesn't qualify as frequent......

I still think it's probably a bad connector, maybe a poor contact affected by vibration/damp. I wish I knew what exactly the error means, presumably something is being compared and found wanting in some way, but what sensors? (On the plus side, no other errors apart from the eternal alarm low internal voltage warning)

Well, V2 is the blower motor itself of course and the Ros-Tech Wiki states:

So the fault code probably tells you no more than you already knew, that there is an intermittent fault causing a break in the current-flow. Probably a bad connection, as you say, but is the bad connection in the wiring, the "hedgehog" or the motor itself?

I haven't scanned the car since that error was spotted in March, but decided to do so today. Hasn't returned.
And the fan has been working perfectly including via Solar power.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this Andrew? Mine stopped working today though a sharp bang with a clenched fist on the box got it going again..so hopefully just a dodgy connection. My mechanic is going to have a look at it next week and he has Maria's number just in case
On a more positive note it passed the MOT with an advisory "Central Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases"....I think it sounds better like that so not too fussed at the moment

Turns out the blower motor is (to use a Scottish technical term) gubbed, managed to get the only one left from our sponsors. Came from a 2.8 so can't imagine it had a solar roof which hopefully will give me a few more years..

As noted in another thread (http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=15449 ) I've decided to replace the motor anyway (with a D3 version) as it does sounds a bit "rough" at times and I'm not convinced it's running as fast as it should all the time.
And with my perennial water ingress issues I definitely need a good ventilation fan.

I now have my D3 motor and fan and, as noted in the other thread, the D2 lead has a circular 2-blade male plug whereas the D3 has an arch-like 2-blade female socket. See attached photos.
(It also looks like the D2 has 6.3mm blades whereas D3 is 4.8mm, though the slots will take 6.3mm..... ) Ideally I don't want to chop either lead, so does anyone have any of the following, even better with wires attached? Option 1. A D2-style circular 2-blade male plug AND a D3-style 2-blade plug, so I can make a short 2-wire adapter lead. Option 2. Just the D2-style circular 2-blade male plug, so I can graft this onto the D3 fan lead. (e.g. from a really dead old D2 unit, I think it's 813971956) Also, does anyone know the part numbers of the D3 connectors (male and female)? (Edit: Looks like the male may be 1J0973852, photo added)

Given that there are no more good D2 motors so any future replacement will also be from a D3, why not graft the D3 connector on to the D2 wiring? Then the next one will be plug and play
I would get a D3 connector and terminals from TPS and splice them on to the D2 wires using heat-shrink crimps. |
