Default ECP Faults

Hello folks,
As per my other threads,I'm new to A/S8 but actively searching.

Planning to view a car with an ECP light illuminated,I believe, constantly. The owner advises there is no impact to performance or day to day running and it's passed MOTs without issue.

Difficult to say without getting a code reader attached I guess, however, does this sound feasible ? Are there any items / sensors etc that could trigger the EPC light without impacting performance?

Thanks in advance

its possible that its not a serious issue, something like mass air flow, maybe even just needs cleaning out , but you wont know unless you put a vagcom lead on and read the errors

Thanks - I viewed the car yesterday, it's actually the engine symbol that's constantly displayed.

Reviewing the invoices it mentioned a lambda sensor fault which although reset, reappears within a day or two

Sound feasible?

It could be that it's had non-standard replacement catalytic converters; perhaps sports cats. This is a common fault with non-standard cats and can be fixed with a 'spacer' to take the lambda sensor out of the exhaust flow or, I think (but might be wrong) can be coded out.

Ask about the cats and see if there are receipts; that should answer the query
