Default Parking Brake Fault

Symptom - Parking failure on centre display and loud beep whilst driving. If scanning with VAGCOM there will be no voltage from one of the calipers.

[b]Resolution[b] - New brake caliper required complete and possibly new parking controller. Will require coding on reinstall.

Failed parking motor most likely. It will be unable to see the right or left supply channel voltage.

Otherwise parking ECU.

How do you establish if it is the caliper or the ECM? Is swapping around the calipers for testing a possibility, or even simply plugging in the working caliper to the other side?

My local garage tested for voltage going to the connector, but nothing showed up even on the side that is working.

Does the caliper move in and out with the motor?

Can you plug VCDS in and perform the tests?

Is the ECM attached to the caliper? I thought it was in the boot.

The caliper does not move and the motor does nothing. VCDS reports:

Stupid question.. have you taken the power connector off and cleaned it? I had this a few winters ago, wasn't quite on properly so some crap had gotten in.. Some wd40 and emery paper and it's been good since.

Though it could be dead

You can hope!!

If it was me... I would remove your battery and locate the ECM in the boot. Then test the wiring (Use the colours) and do a continuity test from the caliper to the main wiring loom to the ECU. Rule that out first.

Easy to do with a paperclip and an electrical testing meter.

Hi Guys

I am new to the forum. I just bought the VCDS package and scanned my car. I also got the parking brake fault but the warning light only comes on sometimes and the disappears after I flick the parking brake up and down a few times.
