Yes, as Adrian states, the final drive is total separate from the gearbox. It drips gear oil onto the cat and the burning smell/smoke is a good indicator.

So on the main gearbox where the prop comes out that has another section that holds ep oil ?

Yep, that's basically it. Has a separate drain and fill on that part of the case

Yes can see it on a picture now , it has a prop that comes forward to drive front diff , I wonder if they suffer the same as land rovers where auto oil gets past the case seals and fills the diff part part with auto oil , it turns the ep oil pink and often spews out of the breather tube
