I shall call the hotel tomorrow to;
a). see if the 30/31st Oct is still ok. People had been shifting their wedding dates and September was already full when we visited last weekend - they expected October to fill up fast too which is why I grabbed the 9/10th.
b). Check the situation regarding cancellation/deposit refunds for those unable to make which ever date.

They, like every hospitality business, are hurting. They are part of a small group which owns a number of Scottish hotels and the people we are talking to are not aware of any policy moves over closure/lay-offs being considered higher up the food chain. They have promised to keep us informed throughout though.

I'm not sure what an A/S8 meet's equivalent of Ray's celebrating reunions/Remembrance SUnday by playing music and marching around his room is ........ but we can work on it. Suggestions welcomed!

I hope you manage to get us all sorted out - I really don’t envy you (David and Brian) with all this going on as well as your own personal challenges. Nothing is certain for the coming months (or more) and, currently, we’re in a fairly strict isolation as Christine has an issue requiring fairly hefty doses of steroids (compromising her immune system). Who could have foreseen this? I wish you all the very best of health in these difficult times!

As Jim alluded to, organising the annual meet is a task in itself, without the complications that the current situation throws into the mix. I can understand Brian and David's situation where they are doing their best to sort things out (on top of looking after their families), but seeing as only half those booked have responded, and several (including myself) have said 'either date' is suitable, can I make a suggestion?

From what has been said, the 9th/10th IS booked, but there is an option of the 30th/31st. There are those that may not be on the site every day, so may not see this thread. Could a PM be sent to everyone that has booked, asking them if the 30th/31st is better suited to them, and to reply ASAP, since people will receive an email notification about the PM.

With what David has said, and the pace of changes, the latter date may not even be an option by the time he contacts them tomorrow. The other alternative is that Brian and David make the final decision based on the responses so far. Either way, I applaud your tenacity in the current climate.

On a lighter note regarding Ray's brass band antics in his bedroom, maybe with the date shifts, we'll be sharing our evening meal with a wedding party.

Based on their own judgement and government advice. I trust you guys.

If we (and the hotel) get through this we're going to need some social contact. If not in October hopefully no later than next year.

Thanks for the supportive comments
I do need to point out that TinTin (Steve) is also an active member of the organisation committee we even ran the route in his Tesla - which provided some excitement at one of the points of interest on the route which we hope to include on the day......

If there is a wedding on the same day I volunteer to kiss the b ride.
I did that during the German 2019 meet when we clashed with a wedding.

hey buddies,

very sad to read this, but very glad you're taking matters in your hand that quickly and provide facts - something that we lack nowerdays..

I've canceled the ferries for june.

I am not sure whether we can make the trip in October. Is there some agreement with the hotel to cancel the rooms?

Really hope the situation becomes clearer soon! I do not want to weigh in my opinion on the date, as I don't know the weather and the future. I guess early October should have the better weather, late October has got the charme that it's about three more weeks to get clarity on Corona.

Will keep myself updated and under good circumstances I will rebook everything and join you guys!

cheers,
Manuel
