I run my D3 3.7 on good old 95RON standard fuel, sourced from the Local Tesco near home in Dorset (one of only two petrol stations in the whole town, the other being at least 10% more expensive) or if up in Hertfordshire I'll use ASDA or Sainsburys 95 Ron.

The Volvo 2.4 D5 is also run on bog standard diesel from wherever I can get it cheap. Its my most used car now compared to the D3 that now does around 400 a month at most, sometimes considerably less.

Reading a number of the fuel reviews available online, and the comments in various forums, it seems that there are "some" opinions that certain high-octane fuels (possibly due to alcohol content levels) are more suitable for turbocharged petrol cars and others for normally-aspirated.

There's no clear evidence or even a consensus, but I detected a "leaning" towards Shell for N-A and Tesco for turbos.

Anyone have any thoughts or experiences?

As both our cars run better (and almost always) on 99 and we have one of each type I'm interested.
As it happens the N-A S8 usually gets fed Shell V-Power and the turbo Volvo usually gets Tesco Momentum, but it's not guaranteed.
2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions, ski hatch retrofit; extended leather. Aftermarket DVB-T, reversing camera and full XCarlink (Bluetooth etc.).
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!)
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.

Way back in the day, many years ago, once upon a time etc.
When stationed in Germany there was an awful lot of surplus "av-gas" available. It was suspected contaminated and therefore could not be used in aircraft. It just sat in a load of 40 Gallon oil drums. We were warned not to use it in our cars because the octane rating was much too high.
Of course some of the lads just used it anyway and nobody that I know of had any problems. The majority mixed it 50/50 with normal fuel.
I never did try it, but at the time, though it was rationed we had petrol at one shilling per gallon. (I kid you not, best fags were also one shilling for 20). This of course was leaded.Save</span>
