3.0 Tdi SWB uses 314-323mm, LWB 360mm
Her is 3.0 and LWB and on 17"

360mm=14.11"
Wheel outside diameter 17"
Possible and very close, around 0.5" gap?!?!

Doesn't the 4.2 TDI use the 385mm discs that are the same as the S8's ?

SWB has 330 or 335mm discs @ the front

Hmmm... Not what I thought, nor what Europarts say. There are 2 sizes for the 4.2 TDI. 360mm and 385mm. I am guessing the SWB is 360mm and the LWB and Armored is 385mm.

I'm not sure if you'd get a 17" rim over either, but I guess if you have a SWB 4.2 TDI with the 360mm fronts, you MAY just get a 17" on but I doubt it. The caliper is massive.

The sizes you mention M-A8 are probably the much smaller discs found on the 3.0 V6.

Actually, I think I am wrong and 17" rims may well fit a car with 360mm brakes.

Ross-tech coding on the brakes section states:

3 = FNRG-60 16" (PR-1LG)
5 = 2FNR 42 AL 17" (PR-1LL/1LM)
6 = 2FNR 42 AL 18" (PR-1LJ/1LK)
7 = Brembo M6 AL 19" (PR-1LW)

I think the LL/LM are are the 360mm listed as 17" rims and LJ/LK are the 385mm listed as 18" rims with the LJ being the W12 and the LK being the S8 I think. The LW is the ceramic setup with the fixed calipers at 19" rims.

I think the LL and LM are the 4.2 V8 FSI and 4.2 V8 TDI and the LG must be the 3 litres with the smaller discs.

I guess the only way to find out for sure is to measure and try some on.

Very interesting Lee

She has a 3.0tdi and 17'' on, so I think you can get 17'' but only on petrol/diesel engines up to 3.0l

BUT, look at the pictures of armored A8 I posted earlier and the German Police version of A8.

Armored one is a W12, but look at the wheel size, I'm almost sure this is 17''-18''
It's all a little confusing but to coming back to Audifin's question, I would go for 18'' if you have 19'' already on and still looking for more comfort.

<<<FYI, I have 323mm Zimmermann's on mine>>>

I will get my 18''s cleaned today and get some pictures online

Here are my 18''s mate

old thread but i need advice.
i have 4.2 TDI 2006.
the car has a harsh ride.
car has been to audi specialist
1) the suspension module calibration is spot on
2) the suspension bushes etc are fine
3) the garage says that other 4.2 TDI/W12’s that they look after have the same ride quality.

so it must be my bottom that is delicate.
infact when i got my D2 which had 17” 5 spoke, i swopped them for OEM 20” 9 spoke.
after a week i went back to the 17” as the 20” were too stiff for me.

now the D3 has the 8.5J x 19 ‘12-spoke’. would changing them to smaller alloys help significantly?
if so, would 17" x 8.5J fit?(due to the larger disks)
or 18” x 8.5J ?
thanks raj

Not sure on how they would suit a D3, but I have a set of original (PF) 18" S8 Avus wheels for sale here. (See grey S8 in signature pic)
They fit over FL Brembos so no problems there. Need to check ET and PCD are OK, but should be. Only 8" not 8.5. See: http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=9858

Does your car have sports suspension? Mine does and I changed from 19" to 18" and it made a huge difference. 18" was standard size on 4.2TDI SE at the time, so they'll fit, I doubt 17" will. I guess I should have bought a SE
