Default Resting heater

I've tried mine out, and I've read the instruction manual, but I'm still not sure:

1. If it's working.
2. How it ought to work, or what the point of the thing is.

Nevertheless, I want it to work and I want to get some benefit out of the thing.

Mostly, when I press the button, it only stays lit until I release it...

How is it meant to operate, please?

Auxiliary pump in plenum chamber uses battery power to pump coolant through the system and heat the car whilst engine is still hot.

One of the reasons is weak battery. HVAC module knows battery voltage. If it is below threshold it won't start the pump. This will allow you to start car next time.

There are zillion of other reasons why aux pump won't start, for example because it was killed by flooding because plenum chamber drains were clogged.

New pump is £800 new and is a bit of nightmare to change

How do you test the resting heater? I think mine might be knackered!

Get the car warm, switch everything off and ignition or pull the key out, then push the REST button on the climate. It should switch on

Does the resting heater circuit perform any other heating function appart from 'at rest'?
Can the additional piping be removed together with the motor such that the coolant circuit is shortened?

I believe it assists with circulation of coolant into the climate system so the cabin can/will warm up quicker in cold weather.
I disabled the pump on my old PF S8 as it was getting very noisy and noticed a very slight effect, but as the S8 engine and coolant circuits warms up so quickly it's not a problem.

Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. Agate Grey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, Tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon. Added Auto-dim mirror, Leather seats, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Excellent, thanks.
I never used it and my feeling is the big engine on the S8 produces a lot of heat anyway. I was just worried in case it was a part of the warm air blower/climate unit.
Another un-necessary part I can remove

I just disconnected the wiring, which is trivially easy and takes seconds.
I would think that physically removing and bypassing it would be quite involved.

Yes but Goran needs to remove things to continue his ongoing weight saving battle so just disconnecting it won't be far enough!
