A bit more from Friday:
This would be why it smokes when its running Lifting the engine and box off the subframe All the bits and pieces removed from the engine ready to separate from the gearbox on Saturday A bit pile of oily engine bits to clean... Many other bits Lots of coolant parts to replace Water hoses don't play well with oil Ick. Lots and lots of cleaning 🤢 I'm mildly amused Audi almost managed port and starboard colours on the secondary O2 sensors Close enough for me to know which is which at least. |

Hi MikkiJayne, I am loving this thread and watching in 2 ways, the first with green envious eyes and the second with a little relief that I am not having to pay for the work.
I am Tony the previous owner of this beautiful car and didn't realize all the work that was needed. It ran really well except the slight flutter from the engine. I admit to the too loud exhaust (I didn't realize how loud it was until Dean drove it away from my house) but have nothing to do with the mayonaisse in the power steering, the steering always felt fine. I have always kept in touch with Dean about the car which might seem odd after selling it to him but I seem to have a strange attachment to it lol. Keep up the good work and I will meet up with Dean one day to have another envious look over the car when it will no doubt be perfect |

Most of today has been spent adapting the engine and gearbox separating jig I made the other week (for a V8 and 5HP24) to fit the V6 and 5HP19:
Next job is to split them and get them both mounted on stands so I can start the clean-up and re-seal |

Pic dump from this morning. Pretty much the only seal which wasn't leaking is the rear main, which is a bonus cos its quite expensive! The crank breather pipework and oil separator were pretty gunged up and one of the pipes was broken hence the magnitude of the leaks. Common problem on the V6, again down to the poor engine packaging compared to the V8. Interestingly, the cam tensioner pads are in pretty good condition compared to a V8 of the same mileage, but they'll be getting changed anyway while its in bits as the tensioners need to come out to change the gaskets under them anyway.

Loving the photos
This is all very thorough work MJ. Much more like a restoration than a repair. I feel like I'm watching an episode of Car SOS unfolding. Do you have an elderly mechanic and a 'parts blagger' to assist you?

How wrong I was. I didn't really appreciate her work ethic when chatting to her about the car. This is more like a restoration. Looks like no stone is unturned. It seems that she doesn't want to let a car out of her workshop unless she was 100% happy with it as if it were her own. I feel honoured and I only wish I was down in Devon with her helping her out right now (or hindering more like ).
