Default TPMS - what do I do next?

Good old TPMS. Perhaps the only thing I really don't like on the S8.

Since I've had the car I've ha a TPMS warning every time I start it. I had the sensors replaced yesterday. Alas no solution yet.

First, I bought 5 but the garage replaced four saying the spare didn't have one. The onboard display shows that it is looking for a signal from the spare, so not sure whether that (having only 4 fitted) is a problem or not.

Second, the car still isn't picking up anything from the sensors. I've tried initialising and also storing the pressures. Nothing showing - no temps or pressures.

And as if that wasn't annoying enough, I think one of the new valves is failed as my rear offside was flat as a pancake this morning.

One step forward, two steps back...

Any ideas? Should I get the fifth sensor installed? Is there a trick to initialising or to getting the car to read the sensors?

The sensors on these cars if they are the original beru ones last for about 6 years.

If any one of the 4 road wheel sensors gets to the point of not working reliably the system will give an error in the dis and there will be no readings in the mmi screen.

The system can indeed monitor the spare wheel but it does not need to have one for the others to work as intended.

If you have four new sensors fitted you need to select the setting in mmi to start the process of learning and go for a long drive. it took the best part of a 30 mile drive for my new sensors to kick in and start working.

Its worth remembering to make sure you don't have spare sensors or old ones in the car during the learning process as this may confuse the system.

Cheers. Didn't realise it would take that long to get the first communication sorted. I will line up a long trip.

My TPMS has packed up too, so I'm after new sensors. What did you go for Greg?
Every time I start the car it waits for about 45 seconds and then the TPMS warning illuminates along with a drill in the head warning tone. Its at this point that I could gladly disembowel whoever at Audi thought a piercing monotone was the thing to go for.
It takes about 20 mins driving for the system to reinitialise, be interested to hear if this works OK.

These ones: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2519244566...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Took then to a local tyre place only to be told that the tyre place supplies exactly the same ones, and for four could have undercut the ebay price plus their fitting (£12/ wheel)! Live and learn...

I agree that bloody warning tone is incredibly irritating. Also works really well in conjunction with the low fuel warning.

OK. Thanks for the heads up. Did you manage to get them talking to the car yet?

No, but that's only because I haven't been out in it. Had to work on Sunday, and last two days have been hectic. Will get the valve sorted tomorrow then see about heading off somewhere for a pootle.

Ha! Pootle - well, not quite.

Anyway, the sensors popped into life last night. Pretty cool when they work (although first thing I did was to switch the units from the useless bar to the much better psi).

Great result. I now await a new set from the US. Agree about bar v PSI
