Well my Google Earth started working again earlier today.

I wonder what the problem was?

Some good info there Paul...although it doesn't fill me with much hope that my issue will be resolved as only a mechanical warranty is left on my car until April 2018.

Thanks & kind regards,

Default Google Earth to end 31.12.2020

Much fuss on other forums about Google Earth going to disappear at the end of the year. Is this going to be the same for A8/S8 D4 owners ?

Reading that thread, it appears that any Audi with Google Earth will cease to work from 1st January 2021. What's confusing about that thread is what exactly the effects of this will be with regards to what's displayed in the MMI, the Virtual Cockpit and the HUD, as some seem to imply that there will be no navigation of any sort, there will be navigation but nothing on the VC or HUD or that there will still be full navigation with everything on the MMI, VC and HUD 'but' without the fancy Google Earth graphic overlay. I would to think that it would be the last of those options, with the display looking more like the maps displayed in the D2 and D3.

I would say you’re right in that a D4 should still have a functioning sat nav but without the impressive looking Google Earth overlay.
It’s disappointing to be honest and I don’t think Audi have bothered to inform anyone either.
It’s a nice feature and I’ll miss it if it disappears as predicted.

It isn't the first time this has been rumoured - time will tell if it will be the last

Well I reckon they've finally gone and dropped support for Google Earth.

For the last week I have been unable to load the GE overlay being greeted with a message saying;

Not enough data in memory.
Google Earth will switch to standard map display.

I could go into the Green engineering Menu and try to clear the cache but I think it would be fruitless.

Bloody Audi...first they take away Google Street View which I could live without but to take away the Google Earth overlay is a step too far.

I would gladly pay a reasonable subscription to continue using GE but not even an option it would seem.

Also left wondering whether the Google Online Destination search which I use a lot will be taken away also?

A very disappointed Audi A8 owner...
