As a matter of interest When you say align the front end is that just to make the bumper/gaps align or is it something more / different

Yes, exactly that. The position of the front panel defines how the bonnet sits in relation to the wings and headlights so that needs setting first, then once that is all correct, the bumper can be adjusted to suit.

That rear subframe looks pretty dreadful! Did this car live by the sea at some point? Reminds me of the state of my GL5 that lived in Poole for most of its life…..

Parked for 6 years on grass or possibly gravel and weeds I think.
Rear bushes. Mostly self-explanatory. Not a fan of the Febi bushes for the hub as the metal is very thin making them likely to crush when they go in. I'll investigate the Febest versions, or spend the money on the genuine D3 items in the future. Fuel tank straps. They are attached to studs pressed in to the body. When removing these nuts one has to be extremely careful not to put too much torque on them as the studs will just spin in their holes and then you're going to have a very bad day. After soaking in WD40 for a couple of days, then cleaned with a wire brush and a pick, then soaked in WD40 for a bit longer, I'll screw a spare M8 nut on to clean up the thread. Once this goes on and off by hand, only then will I loosen the strap nut, as I know it'll come off cleanly. This is the sort of job where you need a 1/4" ratchet, maybe 3/8" max, so as not to put too much torque on anything. With the straps on the right hand side off, the tank drops just enough to get to the bolts holding the horribly rusty exhaust hanger Powdercoated exhaust hanger and tank straps, with new nuts. Much better

That is great information! Did you just get the existing straps and hanger cleaned up and powder coated?

Ah yes, iirc the V6 only has one in that position, so #6 for the V6 is #12 for the V8.

Doing the rear brake pipes while the subframe is off. The two unions by the tank are pretty crusty. One of these pipes is staying put, the other one is getting changed.
The brake hose bracket has completely corroded through which is vexing The top part of this should be attached to the body, but its just turned in to fluff This is the remaining stump of the bracket The solution will involve a new bracket and structural adhesive.
