Works really well, you can get an exact colour match if you send them a sample and a choice of sheen for the finish. Given there is no wear/tear on the dash would be really easy to do also. My only tip is not to put too much hope into the aerosol propellant they supply with the airbrush but try to get it attached to a compressor as much easier in my experience

There was a black dash going on A8 parts i saw mint only £70, its just the amount of work needed to get it in sadly. maybe a good bodyshop would attempt it for you. Door cards would be easy to change over, black with suede would be my preference, dash vents are easy to find, and black leather seats are easy enough to sort, even RS6 recaro C5 seats would be a nice touch hmm, i have also found a seat belt company that can change over belt colours if needed - http://www.quickfitsbs.com/index.php Another thought.. in very hot countries i've seen before dash board covers, stops the dashboard from melting in extreme heat, if it was possible to get a black cover that would be a nice touch but i bet impossible to find HP is right perhaps you can get the dash leather trimmed loads of cars have this done just pick up a copy of VW performance mag, or audi tuner seems alot can be done these days

100% agree. Why they had to chose diarrhoea brown I'll never know. I was hoping to warm to it like like my initial reservation with the colour of the car but that hasn't happened. I bought mine based on history, condition in the end as I couldn't find a black car / black interior combination.

If the shell does come off the extrusion with the extrusion still bolted to the car then that makes it much more feasible. Still a chunk of work, but possible.
A8 parts have a black one listed at the moment (at half price), still attached to the extrusion. May be worth buying that to have a good look how it comes apart and decide from there? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/Audi-...d/130742862326 |

My logic goes like this. If it can be removed in one piece, it can be put back in. Audi did not hand build the dash or the body shell, they are mass produced components and should fit together. Granted it may take a bit of work to get a smooth fit.
Consider this, the dash is a replaceable part you can purchase from the dealers. It was designed to be removable. |

I have a slightly different outlook based on experience...
VAG's engineers design things so they're easily assembled on the production line with little, if any, thought given to servicing & repair later in life (example, control arm bolts, that stupid plastic oil cooler pipe, the Passat W8 where you have to remove the engine to change the alternator, etc etc etc). The complete dash assembly with heater, wiring harness, ducting, reinforcement bar, etc is installed as a single unit on the production line so all the gubbins inside it is assembled outside the car. There is no thought given at all to taking the shell out on its own (example the B5/C5 climate control sensor wire I mentioned earlier). It was designed to be easy to build, not to be removable later |

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions, ski hatch retrofit; extended leather. Aftermarket DVB-T, reversing camera and full XCarlink (Bluetooth etc.). 2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one! Finally: gone, but not forgotten..... 1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors. e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later) 1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer. And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850! |

There is also procedures to access the flapper motors without removing too much (unlike my mates C class from the accountants era, which has 11 or 13 flapper motors and it's basically a dash out job to replace them). Quote:
Not quite to stop them melting! However fading and shrinking/cracking is the main concern. Not such a problem with modern cars, but it was rife down here 20-30 years ago. Quote:
I had a quick look at local manufacturers, none made for the D2 (no surprise there!). No great loss IMHO. They're not very attractive - more attractive than a cracked dash I suppose! My Dad's missus has one on her Corolla and it does nothing for the interior ambience (actually, on second thoughts it is a Toyota...) - actually that's not a bad example, as it has a beige dash and a black dashmat, perhaps I should take a photo to show you how bad it looks!
