Default Lepsons Wheel Refurb !!!!!

The general consensus on here seems to be that Lepsons are the best at diamond cutting our 20 inch alloys. Does anyone have a really good quality close up picture they could post of a wheel that they had done by Lepsons ?

Is it exceptional ? Could you tell the difference between it and a new original wheel ? Just curious if its worth the expense, and if they are any better than any other diamond cutting wheel refurbisher !

Cheers !

Lepsons has a good reputation and I would trust them with diamond cut wheels but I believe I'm right in saying that no refurber can get the exact same finish as from factory. Very very slightly different but you wouldn't notice unless you inspected it close up.

How bad is the damage?

The wheels I have don't have any damage but have been painted before. I'm considering either getting a diamond cut done and keep them for my next car, or just selling them as they don't suit my needs right now.

I have a local company to me that does a diamond cut finish but just trying to convince myself whether Lepsons are worth the extra expense, hence the reason I'd love to see a good picture of their work.

When I had my (previously painted) 20" wheels refurbished recently the guys said it was probably not worth even examining them to see if the diamond-cut finish could be restored.
Their opinion was that this could only be done if there was minimal damage and the coating was probably hiding a multitude of sins. That's why it was there.....

Default Alternative to Lepsons

I'm a non-Lepsons man, as I've used Pristine Wheels instead, and been very happy with their work on my 20" FE 9 spokes (twice..).

Diamond cut, by their nature, deteriorate more quickly than a plain lacquer finish, so it's worth bearing that in mind (though mine seem to get kerbed before they have a chance to deteriorate naturally... ..).

I'll see if I can take a picture of one of the wheels tomorrow for you.

I used Lepsons to refurb S8 Avus 18" wheels on my previous S8, I only did this to sell the car so I cant comment on how durable the finish is. They looked very good to me when freshly refurbed, and shortly after I sold the car.

The 20's on the S8 have been diamond cut a couple of times over the years and again are showing the odd mark again now.

Now can I assume there is a limit on how many times this can be done as it reduces the actual wheel material?

Therefore would the next option be to go for a refurb back to shiny silver?

Default 20" diamond cut refurbisher

And to clarify, as far as I'm aware, it's only Lepsons and Pristine who can diamond cut 20" wheels - there's a bigger choice of suppliers if the wheels are smaller than this.

Here y'go - a photo of a diamond cut (no centre cap, off car) and a plain faced refurbs (centre cap, on car).

It's quite hard to see any significant difference on mobile phone camera photos, but that's all I could manage for now.

If you're going to the SW meet on Sunday, which I don't think you are, then I'll happy swap the spare over and bring one of the diamond cut 20's for you to compare with the fitted 20s in the flesh...
