After thinking about it on the second day the touch application isn't that bad really, as long the accuracy is very good (you will need a good touch response due to the location and angle of the screen if you need to do something during while driving)
I'm keep thinking about it

Del, have you done a research on that unit?? reliability and compatibility plus maybe some reviews about the touch application??

Cheers

No not found any reviews, MP3car are banging on about it in apositive way though and if it works as good as the videos show I will be happy.

For me the benefits will be.
  • Txt Messages
  • Videos that can be stored on the phone
  • Internet via built in data plan
  • Back up sat nav
  • OBD Diagnostics and Guages

I completely get it Del
And touch screen of course??? or iPad?

Shame about the position of the screen, not tilt for better touch operation, but the list of benefits is really long and if that can be delivered together with a great reliability then it is a great feature

What is your estimated cost of this project??
And, where are you going to install the pcb, i know its only 5x6cm ??

Costs as I see the build will be something like.
  • samsung Galaxy MHL adaptor £25
  • Customgadz kit with touch-panel plus shipping £135
  • other crap like hdmi cable boxes to put module in etc maybe another £50

MHL adapter cables can be had for buttons from Fleabay (I bought two a couple of months ago). Only 'gotcha' I had was that it needs a USB power feed to make it work, and it does eat battery.

I like the idea of having a touch screen but dont like the idea of playing around with the current screen setup, im also not sure that you could provide touch from both the audi system AND the phone, havent read the small print so maybe there is a way. What i do get is the need for all the above.

On my xmas trip to france i wanted to
a) have backup nav, as sometimes my disc stops working and with the boot full it would be a right pain.
b) Speedcamera locations to make up for the audi shortfall in this dept
c) Keep the above fairly well hidden as its illegal in france
d) Nice large display of KPH
e) display of current road speed limit

Already had the Tablet
so added a 10 quid odb bluetooth connector
bought torque app
Dloaded Navfree for the satnav
radardroid pro app for the speedcams
overlays app so i could add a tiny on/off button for radardroid
Ulysse speedometer pro

I put the tablet in its case and sat it on the open ashtray ie covering the heating controls. but a good place to view it without it being in the way

so had several views i could pick from

I put together a quick torque screen, quite minimal but looked quite good at night

Ulysse speedometer pro, i liked this one nice big dials to make easy viewing, but one of the best features is that it can overlay the information on top of other apps

As you can see in Navfree below, the KPH and compass from ulysse are overlayed on top of the map

radardroid works on top of all of these, and i chose to have it working in the background and on alert - pop up with a large warning and view of what the speed should be.

have to say it was very useful. probably could have put more thought in but only had a couple of days to get it together.

only issue is there isnt anywhere to mount a full time tablet,

but if the mimmicx2 works, i could have all of this on the main screen.

used a samsung 10 inch tablet
