Default What design features do you wish the A/S8 had?

Whilst driving the 8 recently I’ve realised how annoying the rear view visibility can be when it rains.

On the D2 my wish list would be;

1) Rear wiper. Although it would probably not look too good?
2) A Coupé variant. I believe there’s one exhibited at a museum but never went in to mass production. This is were Mercedes has the edge. Imagine an D2 S8 Coupé

Are there any features/designs you guys ever wonder why Audi never made?

Rear wiper is an issue on a lot of modern so-called "saloon" cars.
I would have though it would be possible to hide one so that it's not visible when "parked".

Apart from that most desirable items "of the era" were/are available on the various generations of A8/S8 so nothing springs to mind, though there are always options you wish your own car had.

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

I'd like a big bazooka please. It would be useful for removing those vehicles that sit in lane 2 clogging our motorways.

At the moment I can only think of things my car could do without, wish it had a ‘normal’ park brake and not an electronic one, bloody thing! I’d also delete the ‘see around corner headlights’ that keep throwing faults at me!! LOL

Actually what i’d like is to be able to switch certain functions on or off.

ACC switch off to standard cruise control would be good and also switch the Auto dimming mirrors off every now and then. Sometimes it is nice to see the vehicles that are behind you on the Motorway with a bit more clarity. (Police for example!!).

My S8 doesn’t have auto dip high beam but my BMW does and I quite like it. Also HUD is great and i’d like that on the Audi.

BMW has an electronic dip stick though which is a royal pain in the ass!!!!

Great thread, it’s like therapy!

Agree on having a rear wiper.
Also agree on being able to switch off auto dip.

On a D2 I would’ve liked auto lights and wipers as standard - both were fitted to our ‘99 Citroen Xsara and worked well enough. Features on our current cars that are totally taken for granted

Still waiting to get my S8 back from the repair shop, I have spent time reading about the car, especially in this forum and watching youtube.

At the moment I sure would have liked that.

Perhaps I would have liked more analogue instruments. Like an oil pressure gauge.

Sitting in a modern car feels a lot like science fiction to me

Great thread.

I’d like:

1. Switchable, via MMI, auto dimming mirrors - it’s a great feature, but sometimes I really would like to be able to see who’s behind me.
2. Rear wiper - I know it looks ghastly, so I’m torn on this one.
3. HUD, it’s epic.
4. A rear window brake light that doesn’t shine inside the car at night - felt like being in an old fashioned car the first time I noticed this. Still annoys me.
5. Rear seats that fold down. Just occasionally I’d really like to be able to fit longer stuff in the car.
6. PDC that operates when driving forward, without having to be manually switched on. A la Mercedes.

Totally agree My A4 and A6 both have battery voltage and oil temperature. Why does the top of the range model have less instrumentation?

Some decent in-car entertainment would have been nice, but that's where the D2's age really shows now. They missed RNS-E by a year

Also, <enginerd mode> coil-over-damper rear suspension like all other quattro cars.</enginerd mode> The separate spring and damper is really annoying and makes adjustable suspension or retrofitting anything interesting (like D3 or Allroad air) excessively complicated
