Default Its a little cold in the D3

Right Ladies and Gents,

If I may have some of your collective wisdom.

My D3 is cold, no heat in the car so I have been going through the other threads in this regard but not getting much further.

1) AC Works fine
2) Fans blow and I can move the direction around from window to dash vents etc
3) Coolant level is fine
4) I have done a complete VAGCOM Scan this evening and the only error I get (Cleared and comes back) is:

01869 - Rear Left Cold / Warm Air Outlet Motor Position Sensor (G351)
010 - Open or Short to Plus - Intermittent

Now this may be at fault, but as its the rear control unit will that impact the whole system or just mean the rear does not get the heat?

The only other thought is the gearbox is a little slow and clunky so going in for a service soon and I have read in places there is a link between the two?

As always, I know I post here asking many a question but thanks in advance for support.

Is the car running up to temperature properly?

You can do the output tests on VCDS which should test all the flaps and might give you a clue.

Your problem is the same as what my issue was ....

Under the bonnet by the H vac motor there is the main distribution system for the Quad zone ...

On the D3 rather than opening a flap to distribute heat.. it opens a valve to distribute the flow of coolant to the heater matrix

in your case it could be a relay or fuse or just the unit itself thats bad and needs changing ..

Yes should of said gets up to temp in a couple of miles and temp gauge is bang on also.

I shall do some flap testing when I get a chance but would I be right in thinking that even if a flap did not work you should get heat in other places?

Thanks for that I shall check the fuses if not look at replacing the unit.

How much of an arse is it to do? Do at home or garage job?

Finally does it have a part number or official name?

Dont worry about flaps .. try windscreen button and feel for heat with temp on high

If there is no heat but the car sits at 90 perfectly then il bet its the same as mine in my case the picture above is the unit in question

Hope it helps ... good news is there the same on the 3.7 4.2 and tdi as well .. easy to obtain but not all that cheap and a bugger to change

You can change it at home its easy but fiddly and time consuming really.

I dont have a part number off hand but on ebay type

Audi A8 heater valves .. it will come up
Or try A8 parts see if they have them in stock
