Anyone like that "darn sarf", ideally M40 corridor close to London?

I haven't had my transmission done yet, so when I found this on Ebay I am interested: it's my gearbox code http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BREAKING-A...item3a6d712d19.

What do we think £1600 saved or £450 wasted?

If your keeping the car for long, then £450 wasted. It will just fail again.

Probably a waste of money, agreed.

And it's not just £450, it's got to be fitted too...

Like sarg says it's not just £450. You need to budget £100 for fresh oil,£30 for filter+ fitting and shipping if needed and there is no guarantee that it will last. £450 is not that cheap either. I had a chance to buy a box with torque converter that had just done 2000 miles since supplied and fitted by dealer for £400 also that was PF S8 box.

I would not waste time and money on second hand box unless it was recently refurbished or supplied new and comes with paperwork to support it

I knew the answer already, but I was hoping that you might have a different opinion - a new box is going to be a new year present to myself!

^^^ What everyone said.

A used box for £450, plus labor to pull yours, and fit the replacement, both fluids, filter and gaskets. You'll be looking at probably a shade over £1000. No guarantees, could be a bargain, or a costly liability.
