Isofix on a 2002 A8 2.8 QS?
A potential buyer just asked if the car had Isofix for kiddy seats. I haven't a clue! Does anyone here know?

Yes, a 2002 should have them. They were standard kit from about 2000 onwards on the D2

Thanks! It seems that you're my personal A8 guru at the moment. Just waiting on the comments on my brakes

You can find them easily enough - just feel in the gap between backrest and squab and you should have a pair of 4mm diameter pins between brackets, 1 on each side of the outer seats.
From experience of using them on my '02 S8 they can make modern child seats sit at rather an odd angle, particularly for rearward facing infant carriers. My son tends to loll forward in the seat when he's asleep in the S8, whereas in the A6 he stays head back. Access to the Isofix anchorages is also extremely tight and Maxicosi spreaders won't fit due to the side airbags. Don't think I've got a pic of mine installed - will have a look |

Does anyone know if this can be retrofitted onto a car without isofix?
I bought a isofix base when my little boy was born but now i have swapped cars to my a8 and its a pain in the a*se putting the seat in using the seat belts. |

Tell me about it, I've been moving a baby seat back and forth from my '8 to an S4 back and forth this week and it's doing my head in as mine doesn't have ISOFIX because of the reclining rear seats. I suppose you'd get quicker at it after a while but have grazed knuckles from it.
I know people that have retrofitted it to an S4 in the past.

Just realised yours is a '99 from your intro post - that won't have the mounting points for Isofix as we were still drafting the standards for Isofix at that point
There's evidence that post 2002 build cars should have the necessary threaded holes (2 on each side) to allow a bracket with Isofix anchorages to be bolted in place, at least on A4/6, even if they weren't fitted as standard. Didn't investigate A8 at the time. Given that my S8 is a 2002 and does have them, it seems Audi did start fitting Isofix as standard on the A/S8 earlier than some of their other models, as you'd probably expect. A lot of A/S4, A/S6 don't have them from the factory and for months Audi swore blind to me you couldn't retrofit - then I came across a post online with part numbers from an Audi parts guy and sure enough Audi changed their tune..... What seat have you got? We're using a Maxicosi Cabriofix which allows the base to stay in the car with adult seat belt holding it in. I do find the Isofix anchors are in a strange position in the 8 - they're a bit low compared to the seat squab so you end up with car seat leaning back a lot. Not a problem for forward facing, but for rear when my son falls asleep his head tends to fall forwards onto his chest, which doesn't happen in the A6. |

Ive got this base http://www.mamasandpapas.com/product.../isofix_pv.php
I'll just have to put up with using the seat belt until hes bigger then the car seat can just stay in the car.
