LED's Number plate lights

Lads, another post.

I replaced the dreaded corroded boot lid handle with a brand new part. Had to order the number plate lights which i did and they worked fine except they had a very dim yellow hue off them. I went to Halfords today and picked up a pair of their off the shelf bulbs for 15 quid. Fitted them but they're flickering and not coming on.

Have I tried to short route around on this in that the direct replacement LED's aren't designed for this application?

Tried reading a few posts here but can't make sense of it....
