Default 3-4 month hibernation for s8

greetings.
i have to travel abroad for 3-4 months due to work purposes, which means leaving my s8 in the garage.
would it be worth the effort to ask a friend to start it up and let the motor run every week, or should i just unplug the battery until i am back?
the car is insured for myself only, so my friend can only start it, but not drive it around.
regards

I would start it a couple of times a week or so if it was me - can your friend not drive it around the block briefly on his own insurance? most peoples covers them for driving anyone else's car with the owner's permission (and I dont mean long drives just enough to turn the tyres and get everything warm and charged etc)

Bare in mind it takes quite a while to put the charge used starting the car back into the battery. I wouldn't worry too much about frequency 2-3 weeks ought to be fine, but then run it for at least 20 mins. Ideally move it as the tyres will go square if left standing in the same position

Might be worth looking on classic car sites for info?

I have to leave mine for 9 weeks. Last time I did it the battery went flat and the AA emergency joining fee came to £166. I'm thinking of one of these this year. Anybody any experience?

Any of those type of chargers are great - we use one for our BX that doesn't get much use.

Optimate are a popular make usually sold through motorcycle dealers etc - they also do car ones that pack more punch. You can also use them to charge flat batteries on cars with sensitive immobilisers without destroying them (so I am told!) - I've known cars that've popped their security ECUs after having a dud battery removed in the wrong sequence.....
