hmmmm
Notorious I have to say i do admire your thinking. However, if fuel prices rose 5 fold....then it would cost 500 pound till fill one tank on the s8....which is unreal and it would really just be cheaper to fly (1 hour of avgas costs about 130 quid)....lol
The reason I buy an older car is because I do a fair few miles, and no matter howmany miles I do there is not going to be much in the way of depreciation. Further, I hate not being able to do my own servicing, which would be the case with a car under warranty. As for changing cars every 6 months....I dont change my cars that often but sometimes I just get an itch to drive something different and so change. I have to admit I m already missing the s4....a manual v8 with miltek...when I'd accelerate hard it would just roar and the thril of the torque pinning you back in the seat was awesome....dont get me wrong the s8 is an awesome car also and is effortless to drive with its comfort and build quality....but with the s4 being a smaller car it felt more agile and one felt the acceleration more and the manual gearbox just gave me more control and reassuring confidence.....in short I dont think it is a case of changing cars for the sake of it but when you drive as much as I do, which I think you do, then the occasional change in car just makes the daily drive a little more interesting....

I totally understand that and this is why its a hard choice im of an age where most 22 year olds are driving clapped out escorts ect, i aim slightly higher than that i have wanted the W12 for years and any cars i have had before the W12 have been simply a compramise
buy now that the insurance has come down and my no claims are much higher i can finally get the car i wanted all along and then i can settle with it and just enjoy the car, i do not intend on any mods at all maybe some very very light tints just to set it off nice, and hell if i were worried about fuel econ then i would not opt for the W12 the way i look at it i have had tuned subaru's that would only return 17mpg so why not get a much more luxury car and still have the same fuel econ ? in that case i will drop the price to £3250 ono and im sure that will leave room for people to haggle as they all do hear is some pictures of the new girl even got a Full comp warrenty for 6 months plenty of time to find any niggles with the car |

My own opinion of car ownership in the UK used to be that it is our every right to learn to drive and ultimate to own our own cars...but as times goes by we have seem to have lost the fact owning cars is really really expensive and to be honest a luxury that we don't really need - esp. in this economic climate - but we seem to have drilled in our minds that - we MUST have a car and it is our rights, whatever the cost.
It is not only in this country that we have this problem, in Singapore, u actually need a "certificate of entitlement" which costs 10's of £1000 (if I remember right) before u can buy a car (and then the cost of a car in Singapore is even more expensive than the UK). I admire Notorious way of life towards cars , and I have tried to do the same, but life is too short and I have always had an itchy backside (excuse my french) to move on and have something different and ultimate like the film Bucket List(?) I like to own certain cars before my time is right. Question for Notorious - is there a time when a repair cost way too much and u decided to rid the car than repair it? I'm afraid I'm one of those that car-hop (change cars as often) and here's my list (without showing my age - no years attached :-)... 1. Ford Fiesta (ownership 2years) 2. Austin Metro (2 years) 3. Ford Escort (1 year) 4. Mazda 323 (1 year) 5. Mazda 323F (2 years) 6. Honda Accord (1 year) 7. Peugeot 106 (1 year) 8. Daihatsu Sirion (2 years) 9. VW Golf (2 years) 10. Ford Focus LPG (1 month - LPG problems) 11. Ford Focus (2 years) 12. Lexus IS200 (6 month) 13. BMW 120d (2 years) 14. Subaru Legacy LPG (2 years) 15. Audi A8 LPG (TBC)... Interesting to see what others have on their bucket list (had) and what they like to have later in life.... |

Hi DaviesBike,
It certainly looks like your new W12 is as fabulous looking as your D2 - haven driven it now, how does the W12 compared with the D2? I am sorry we didn't get any further with the sale of your car - I guess I was tempted, but if it had an LPG system on it, I might have tried to negotiate on the price. Why don't u put the car on gumtree (free) and test the waters? |

I think anyone driving anything weighing under 10 tons should just be driven over and crushed in their insignificant little aluminium box.

I don't think repair costs rise with age. Older cars I think are even easier to repair than new cars. The real pain is parts availability. For instance, for Audi 200 lower quater lights are not available from Audi any more as this is 20+ years old car.You can only buy used part. People who break cars know that, so prices go up. Supply and demand thing.

Hi Dezzy,
I agree road traffic problem is not as simple as it seems. I'm convinced to withdraw my proposal of 5x rise (my second principle still stands though) I also claim motorway network on south east of England in not complete and I don't see debates about it on parliament channel. If someone travels from somewhere in East Anglia to Berkshire he has to use M25. No choice. If someone drives from Dover to Midlands it is damn M25 again. No choice. I'm for choice

Dezzy,
Mine's a 2004 Legacy H6 (Mk 4 and the most expensive model). Obviously there will be no comparison to a 2004 D3 - D3 will win hands down. The legacy is a complete different quality to the Impreza. It is infact the only Subaru model with a luxury and quality feel to it - starting from the Mk4 (even the latest Impreza is very plastiky inside). This is same is mine (but lower spec): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2005-05-Su...ht_1041wt_1139 Mk 3 (what most people like - I agree): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-LEG...#ht_961wt_1270 Mk 2 (still looks fantastic for its age): http://www.uklegacy.com/forums/index...c=120393&st=20 |
