o.k

finally managed to sort this out
there was nothing wrong with the coding and nothing wrong with the equipment
it turns out one of the barbs which held one of the connectors which goes into the back of the 3g mmi unit had broken so the wire was loose

thanks to everyone who replied

I will be doing retrofit of reversing camera,

Few quick question : did you have to remove 'component protection' from camera module. Which side of car wires go to front, left or right if you look from back. .

Thanks

No component protection on the camera module, and I ran the wires down the left of the boot lid (looking for the rear). Both of the cable routes were pretty full already so had a hell of a job getting the wires through the flexible tube.

EDIT:Sorry , just realised this was for your D4, so probabky not much help as mine is a D3

I just receive kufatec lead to connect everything, manual says to drag wire on left side of the car but it shows picture of steering wheel on left, so it is European version. So im a bit confused now on which side I should put wires from back to front
