Just put the aircon into Econ mode before you turn the engine off, that way you know you don't have to worry about catching it.

Thinking about it, I really don't think it's the AC as it only hapens at cold. To that end, any gearbox specialists in Bristol or surrounds worth a look?

My cars making an intermittant screech just now. I suspect the water pump.

Start it with the bonnet up (get a friend to turn the key) and listen for the source of the noise.

Anyone else know if the water pump makes a noise if on the way out?

I'm no expert but isn't it likely to be the alternator belt slipping under high load given the cold weather. I'd certainly check that first.

S8yot

Belt is nice and tight.

Noise I'm getting is only there on load. Goes away as soon as you lift off.

It is a 'rotational' noise but does not change with rpm or roadspeed.

Outside the car it is quite loud- sounds a bit like the noise a worn clutch release bearing. Inside, much quieter and ignorable with the radio on.

I think it's either the WP or one of the timing belt idlers.

Listening to it closely the other day, it seemed to come from the engine valley area, slightly towards the near side.

Maybe I'll take off the n/s timing belt cover and have a look (+scoosh some WD 40 about!)

Is it easy to get this cover off? (Mines an early FL S8).

Your right Neil; it's in Bristol and was mentioned by A8_Tony but can't find it on the forum. It may have been on TyreSmoke.

Carrotchomper
There are these guys in Weston

Col-Pax Motor Engineers
Winterstoke Road
Weston super Mare
Avon
BS23 3YS
United Kingdom
Telephone: 01934 416923

They have the same flushing gear as Chester Transmissions. I called in there to ask about a fluid change on mine and they certainly seemed to know what they were talking about. I didn't use them in the end as they actually advised against a change saying it could lead to problems given the interval in time and mileage since the last known change. I guess you could read it that they just did't want to be bothered, but I honestly had the impression that they knew their stuff and gave good advice.*
