Little box on tailgate

Dont know if this is in the right section ???

Is the little box you sometimes see on tailgates something to do with GPS ??

yep, has GPS written somewhere on the side of the unit too from memory

yes its the GPS reciever for the sat nav due to the sometimes athermic glazing and the aluminium body its where Audi chose to locate it. The aeriels for the radio/tv reception are in the rear window glass also

Thanks for the replys, tried googling but to no avail. Am i right in thinking that a normal tomtom wont work due to the windscreen ???

Mine worked fine when I tried it, when I didn't trust my factory fit sat-nav on the day I picked my car up

Depends on the spec of your car... I think most S8s came with Athermic , but both my A8s have been fine for GPS in the care.

its a suck it and see job I'm afraid, some seem to and some dont!
I use tom tom on the iphone and still get a good single most of the time

Though.. you can get a re-radiating GPS aerial that you put one half outside the car and the other half inside. Conan had to do this for his motor.

I have no problems using Tom Tom in my S8......... though surprisingly the ancient Audi system was better recently when finding a hotel near Manchester Airport, the Tom Tom didnt find it but the good old German Dominatrix got us to the door no problem
