Default Tinted xenon plus lamps, how is it done?

I really am fond of the look that mkoneman had on his xenon plus lamps, especially on a black car. I may be getting a set of these and want a similar look. I've been trying to think about how he accomplished it but am a bit confused. Best I've come up with is that he tinted the plastic plate/screen that has recently been referenced by silverd2 in this forum. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

Now, only James (mkoneman) and I can give you a definitive answer, as he installed the tint and I took it off! I removed the tint as it was really a hindrance to night vision IMHO.

But, to answer the question, it was an adhesive plastic film applied to the inside of the lens. But only James can tell you where he got it from, I'm afraid.

Not sure how legal any such tint is though............

I've heard of a slightly different product call "flyeyes" that is supposedly legal and has a similar "look". It's like the stuff they cover buses with so that you can see out from inside but the windows look like an advert from the outside; a sort of small honeycomb mesh.
See: http://www.flyeyeskit.co.uk/

Me either, worth playing the blonde card though

"I don't know it's always been like that, i thought it was genuine equipment. How are you supposed to know what is factory or what has been replaced in it's past 13 years"

I'm liking that product tho. Only thing i'd say it the Lamin-X is a protector for the lens.

Hi have the same. Some Audi TT have a black tint look on front lights as stock. MOT wise had no probs, as the lights still show white when turned on.

found this
MOT rules and regulations state:

1.2: Headlights

A pair of headlights must: emit light of substantially the same colour and intensity, emit a steady colour of either white or yellow and be visible from a reasonable distance.

1.3: Brake lights

A brake light must: emit a steady red light, at least 50% of the lamp must be visible from the rear and light must be visible from a reasonable distance

1.4: Reflectors

At least 50% of the reflecting surface must be visible from a reasonable distance.

1.5: Indicators

Every indicator must: emit amber light, have at least 50% of the lamp visible and light must be visible from a reasonable distance.

Masks, or converter kits.

A headlamp or rear tail lamp altered in this way is not a reason for MOT rejection. So long as light outputs are not adversely reduced, it emits the appropriate correct colour and the mask is securely attached.

Good find, i was going to say that i have been through MOT with the lens film on without an issue, but if i'm totally honest it does reduce the light.

Ah, so it was on the whole outer lens, but on the inside face? It looked in photos like it was only applied over the main beam and not the whole lamp, is that correct? Thanks in advance.

IIRC it was over the entire area. And (cue more jokes about failing faculties) I think there was an inner lens (???) that was plastic and it was that that the film was applied to

Ah, that makes sense. That inner lens is the one that silverd2 referenced in the other thread. It covers the main beam and nothing else. That would explain why only a portion of the lamp looks darker in photographs. I'd imagine the film he used was the same as is generally used as a window tint. But to be clear, to the best of your recollection, it was not the outer lens that was darkened? If that is correct, I see in my head how everything should go.
