The earliest Britons were black-skinned, with dark curly hair and possibly blue eyes, new analysis of a 10,000-year-old Somerset skeleton has revealed.
Well that makes me an immigrant!
I have the blue eyes but straight blonde hair (what's left of it) and a healthy pale programmer's tan.

Makes you realise that none of us are truly indigenous to our countries. In fact we may not even be indigenous to earth:

As all humans descended from Paleolithic Africans how can this be a surprise to anyone?

That's what I thought, but I suppose the assumption was that as they moved northwards, to colder regions, our ancestors may have evolved paler skin before they settled as far north as Britain. I suppose it's also possible that Britian's first inhabitants could have come across from equally colder climates, such as central or northern Europe, but this study suggests otherwise.

I think this is really interesting, I love stuff like this, looks like he had the same coloured eyes as me, maybe one of my forebears!

However that mock up done does make him look like Randy Watson from Coming to America....

How infallible are the pioneering genetic sequencing and facial reconstruction techniques?
But genetic sequencing that would have been impossible just ten years ago have now allowed them to determine the colour of its skin, eyes, and hair.

Anyway, speculation aside. Ancestors seems to still be living in that region.

Here is a map which I think is important to be aware of in this context. Europe didn't look at all like today

Wow. I think when you find that your ancestors have been living in the same region for over 9,000 years I think it's time to move, if only for the sake of gene pool diversity!

Hey this is Somerset... it's normal

On another note, it seems they went via Israel from Africa.

There is a 'local face' round here. You'd swear Wetherspoons is entirely occupied by a single family. Don't want none of that gene diversity in the West Country thank you

They tried to breed us out MJ but there's no way they could do it with all those OAP's retiring here, they just don't have the stamina.
