Oil
I found somebody selling Quantum Longlife III 5W30 oil on e-bay. Collection price £26 for 5l can. Contacted him about multiple purchases he said he can do it for £25 if I buy 3 or 4 and £22.50 if 5 or more. I am thinking of picking up 5 cans next time I am heading his way as we have 2 Audi's, then a friend with 3.7 and a couple with 1.9 TDI's and a 1.8 so I can shift them off. Or is there a better deal to be had out there.

Have a look at Opie Oils for deals on Castrol Edge 5W40 - they usually have free shipping deals and if you are a member of ANY of the free to join forums they recognise then the prices are much lower.
Just had a quick butchers and 4x 4 litres is £152.53, so £38 a litre - depends what you want really. Not a fan of longlife service, but if it's cheap enough to change as frequently as regular oil then not really an issue |

I would still be changing every year doing 3-4k miles on S8 and 10-15k in A6.
He also sells Quantum Platinum 5W40 @ £20 for 5l and Quantum Synta 10W40 @ £12.99 for 5l without multiple purchase discount. I could use any of them as they all meet the specifications required but i might do more then 10k in a year on A6 so it makes sense to choose Longlife and keep the same in both cars so that I only need to keep one for topping up and Longlife oil should be better in theory if it can last longer. Quantum trademark is owned by VW and oils are made by Castrol for VW so should be pretty same as Castrol retail oils and they are used by dealers so You know You are putting in oil that manufacturers intended to use. 5x5 liter for Longlife 5W30 comes out £112.5 which is £4.5 a liter. 4x 4 liter of equivalent Castrol Edge 5W30 is 156.2 before shipping from Opie Oils - £9.76 a liter. That's more then twice the difference. I just wanted to check if anybody knows a better deal then this. |

Varies... my 32v would go through the dipstick range in 10k (6 months), but I think the 'allowed' figure is up to 1l/1000m or thereabouts.

Without wishing to sound dumb
What is the correct viscosity oil for the D2 S8? All I seem to know is the SAE rating, but many different viscosities conform to the same SAE.

Picked up 8 cans on Saturday 40l of oil total cost £180. Seemed nice guy, has a small business selling used cars, had quite a bit of oil there including 205l quantum oil drums. Said he can get all VW parts cheaper then dealer as well. Didn't ask but I assume that means Audi parts as well. If You need anything it's worth asking him. He is located near Coventry, username on e-bay is dieseltrader. I have his phone number as well if anybody needs.
Below some pictures of oil showing that it is proper VW stuff for people who never heard of Quantum. |
