Default Plug & play hybrid tv...........nah.

Hi everyone.

Could you help me with this hybrid TV problem please.

My car has a fitted analogue TV.

From what I've researched for my particular A8, hybrid tuner part number, 4E0910148 - A,B,C,D, or E should be ok......I think?

So, I acquired a hybrid TV: 4E0 910 148 C.

It came off a 2007 S5, and the seller said it was in perfect working order.

Time to test it.

Left boot setup with nav player already out. Radio tuner(?) in front, TV module behind it and DSP amp to the left, behind the silver metal carrier.

Removed the radio tuner to bring the cables out a bit more. Then took all plugs out of analogue and put them in the hybrid.

The brown & green aerial plugs don't push in as far on the hybrid as with the analogue.

This is the MMI screen with analogue TV fitted.

......and this is what I got with the hybrid.

The hybrid shows up in VCDS but not on the MMI screen.

VCDS scans of analogue and hybrid:

Address 57: TV Tuner Labels: 4E0-910-146.clb
Part No SW: 4E0 910 146 C HW: 4E0 919 146
Component: TV analog TUNER H12 0210
Revision: 00000001 Serial number: 00000000003067
Coding: 0001003
Shop #: WSC 00000 785 00200
VCID: 211FE2479DC914935CC-8074

Address 57: TV Tuner Labels: None
Part No SW: 4E0 910 148 C HW: 4E0 919 148
Component: R0078 TVhybridTuner 0400
Revision: R0H06000 Serial number: 76300800568601
Coding: 0000203
Shop #: WSC 06325 000 00000
VCID: 2313E84F87D506834E0-8076

Took some screenshots, but I don't pretend to know what it all means:

In VCDS on the hybrid screen, I clicked on coding (I think?), and a little box came up asking me to confirm coding, then it said 'coding accepted'. Still nothing came up on the MMI screen.

Connected all the plugs back in the analogue tuner and the normal CD, TV AV 1 & 2 came back up on the MMI screen. VCDS also showed the analogue TV back at address 57.

Put everything back together in the boot and went for a pint..........yeah right

Any ideas anyone?

If so, please tell me in 'baby steps'

From what I can tell from the pics, you have Rear Seat Entertainment in your car?

If I'm reading the coding for your analogue tuner correctly, it's:

000 - all good
1 = RSE fitted
0 = A6/A8 model coding
03 = UK

At the moment it looks like the hybrid is coded for:
000 - all good
0 = NO RSE fitted
2 = model code, so presumably for A/S5
03 = UK

So basically you need to tell the TV module what the spec of your car is, so that it relays the right information for the MMI to pick up (assuming this module is actually compatible with your car)

It's unlikely to show anything on the MMI until the module is coded correctly

ETA - so in very basic terms, you need to copy that coding string that you use for the analogue tuner, and enter the same into the 'software coding' box, and click 'do it'. The little pop up box should guide you - wherever the ? appears, it's basically giving you a guide to which digit relates to which function from that list - hopefully explained as I've posted above

No rear stuff in there I'm afraid.

So, I put in: 0001003

Is that right Adrian?

Also, do the antenna outputs look ok?

Number 4 seems a bit iffy.

If you don't have RSE then the code would be 0000003.

Did VCDS throw up an error for antenna 4? Just curious since the output test shows it as 'deactivated'.

BTW The part you have; 4E0910148C; is fine. The A8 will accept A,B,C and E.

Ah right, so I put in 0000003, and click 'Do It'.

Got no idea why the 1 for RSE is there, I've never messed with the TV at all.

No error for antenna 4. Is it possible to activate it?

No fault code found.

Ah, so I got the right part number then. Well that's something then

Do you think I need to upgrade the MMI software/firmware for this to work.

It's the original 2004 SW:07.7.0

Thanks.

There is no recoding needed to go from analogue TV to hybrid.

It is a straight swap over.

However.

Hybrid TV didn't exist in 2004, so, unless you have updated your MMI to the latest 5570 version, it simply won't understand what the device is that you have plugged into the MOST bus, so it will ignore it.....

Aaaah right! Thank you IT

Time to commence battle with HAL 9000 then.

I'll report back on the outcome.

On a brighter note. The number 4 antenna has decided to come out of lockdown.

So, just to be sure

When the MMI is updated, which is the correct code for the hybrid tuner?

1. 0001003 = The original analogue tuner code. Although, I have no RSE.

2. 0000003 = The original analogue tuner code, omitting the RSE '1'.

3. 0000203 = The code that's already in the hybrid tuner.

Thanks.

Based on what IT said, once you've updated the MMI to the 5570 version, it should be a straight swap, with no coding required. However, based on the pop-up prompt from VCDS, the coding should be 0000003 i.e. 000 by default, 0 for NO RSE, 0 for A8 and 03 for UK.
