Sundays quest. Make some progress on the heated windscreen. The roof linings in this car are largely ruined. A number of upper pillars have been wrenched off, and the main roof lining has multiple holes in it where 2 Tv monitors have been installed. Whilst a bit of rear seat entertainment was all the rage a decade ago, i'm not running a multiplex here, so the screens can come out, and as a result, so must the roof linings.
This in turn exposes the top part of the windscreen, so wiring it up becomes much easier. First job. Obtain parts. Thankfully, a8parts are particularly good at squirreling away virtually every component of every car they dismantle, so here I have a bagged, full wiring loom from a D2 with heated windscreen, and also a full Alcantara D2 headlining. Note the headlining is wrapped. That is done the second its removed from the car, as are all their interior parts. It means nothing gets knocked or marked once stored so it stays as good as can be. Its one of the many things they do to provide a high quality service. Second job. Untangle the mass of loom, organise it. Remove the audio loom and start to dissect. There are actually two looms superimposed. They only meet in about 3 places and are quite easily separated, leaving this : So, from here, I trace all the relevant wires, and remove carefully from the loom. Yes, elsa gives all the wiring specs, but lashing the wiring up in place is still more difficult that using the original correct wiring. Note I've kept the original plug for the climate module too, so I'll extract that single pin tact and insert it directly into my climate plugs when the time comes. and we reduce it down to this: Next step is to strip out the roof lining ive got and remove the front windscreen. Then this loom should drop in fairly easily, and pop a new screen in, followed by the new headlining. Need to complete this whilst the weather is still cold so I can test, which is why this job has now taken priority over all others.....

 To be honest though, it was Abby's 10th birthday on Saturday, and that always kinda trumps any valentine activities, so we had a great family day then which worked out well

That looks like a very scary amount of electrical 'guts'.
I'm a bit anxious now about installing a Bose loom. I'm really glad you posted these pictures. In my crazy weight saving quest I was actually going to do the reverse of your procedure. Remove the entire heated windscreen loom. Its good to be able to see how it looks out of the car. Maybe I will tackle that when I remove the seats to put in the Bose loom. Now I know where some of the heated windscreen connectors are, I saw two of them in the roof through the front reading lights cover. You wouldn't be able to separate the heated screen loom unless it was out of the car, or at very least you'd need the dashboard and heater matrix out to gain access which is nearly the same thing.
The whole loom is a hefty bit of weight, its a 2 man lift really, but the heated screen bit makes for not much of it at all.
