Default iPod interface

Just spotted this one if anyone is looking for one. Looks pretty neat to me, and a reasonable price too. You can add the bluetooth module for another £40.

Looks great. I'm quite keen on that, seems to be a bit more integrated and cheaper than the parrot kits. I wonder if the Bluetooth works with iPhones? Might well get one if it does, nice holder and it's good to go!

Anyone fitted this yet? I'm desperate to get my Iphone integrated... Sadly it doesn't work with the cheap but excellent Bluetooth kit I bought last year!

I know this is an old thread, but has anyone installed this Xcarlink interface, especially with the bluetooth module?
It looks to be a good solution to expanding the capability of my RNS-D (for digital music and phone) without the hassle & expense of replacing it with an RNS-E.
This version seems to cover all the options including USB sticks and SDHC cards: http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/product.php?productid=247

Well I checked and they seem very confident that it will work "as advertised" with my RNS-D, so I've ordered one ; should have it on Tuesday and have time to fit it, test and report back that day.

Well it's arrived, rather later than expected, so I don't have time to fit it today.

Just had time to take out the RNS and check the short adapter/breakout loom fits OK, which it does, so I've left that in place and everything still works as it should.

Later maybe, or more likely tomorrow, I'll pop the RNS out, connect the main loom and the unit to see if it works as advertised.

Meanwhile I'm trying to work out where to place the "box", it's about 95mm by 65mm by 23mm and the only part you really need to access is the SD card slot, everything else is cabled.

However the main cable loom (back to the RNS) is only a metre long and has some "chunky" sections on it including a fuseholder. I was thinking of using the little cubby hole by the drivers knee but that might be at the limit if I can't find a direct route, though I haven't had a look behind any trim yet.

I'd welcome any input from those of you who have had the various bits of trim off to get at things in this area, or alternative suggestions for a location.

So far, so good. Had a few minutes spare so had a quick go.
Stuck a few songs on a USB stick and it plays them OK - no track names though (wasn't expecting any).
Original CD player still works - it seems to alternate Radio/CD/Radio/USB
Haven't tried an iPod or iPhone yet - none to hand.

Bluetooth seems to work, made a few phone calls using an old Nokia 6500 Classic - just paired it, searched for audio enhancements and used it as if it was a bluetooth headset.
Only limitation seems to be that it doesn't work with Radio on, it has to be in CD mode for the call to get picked up and speakers/mic activated.
Haven't tried receiving a call yet to see if that is similarly limited.

Edit: Yes it is. Though if you're listening to the radio you can just hit the Radio/CD/TV button and it turns the speakers on immediately.
I'll be getting in touch with the suppliers tomorrow to clarify, though there is also a button on the bluetooth unit that I need to RTFM about.

I had my similar box of tricks in the glovebox - the lead will feed over the top of the open glovebox lid and drop down behind the RNS, so dead easy to do

confirm thats where my very similar Connects2 box is too (and it used to be Adrian's) I stuck it on to the inside with a bit of double sided tape but it didnt stick for long, just sits in the glove box now, works fine

cheers
