Duplicate post from long ago. Removed duplication.

As noted in another thread today, a company in Leith do make an adapter to use the OEM TV aerials with add-on equipment.
I will report on progress here; feeing optimistic.

Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

Well I've ordered one of those "phantom" aerial adapters from the guy in Leith.
Got a good price and ordered a pair so that I can (worst case) mess one up, or upgrade to a diversity tuner later if it works well.

Good price is partly because they have all been built so no options on connectors, if you don't want F-connectors (I don't) it's DIY to adapt appropriately (my tuner is SMA). I also think it's maybe "end of line" so reduced "to clear".

Meanwhile I have a question that hopefully someone can answer...
The tuner has 4 aerial connections, rather small. The seller said he thought they were SMB and his lead had those connectors on.
He wasn't sure why 4 though and thought maybe 2 were for the radio which seems a bit unlikely - isn't that a separate unit?
Can anyone clarify?

He also wasn't sure if they were "active" (powered) TV aerials in the D2. His leads do have the capability of passing +5V up them IF the tuner supplies it. My new DVB tuner doesn't but he sells some that do (optionally). Does anyone know the answer to that as well?

So, 2 questions that hopefully someone will know the answer(s) to:
Why 4 aerial connectors on the Analogue TV tuner and what are they?
Are the aerials "active" requiring a power supply up the aerial (usually 5V)?

Not good news.

The cables supplied (maybe he sent the wrong ones) don't fit.
They have a MALE push-fit connector on on end (to fit onto the factory-installed aerial leads) and an F-connector on the other (to go to a new DVB-T tuner).

The Analog TV tuner has a female socket and the incoming leads have male connectors on. They are push-fit but look a bit bigger - anyone know what they are exactly?

Well we've spoken and he's as confused as me, as he was sure the Audi analogue TV loom was an SMA connector and he'd fitted one - maybe a later model?

Anyway, he's found another lead design with a slightly larger push-fit connector and sent me a picture - it certainly looks plausible so he's posting it and I'll send the others back.

So we'll see what the result is with this type, it too has an F-connector on the other end so is presumably an aerial lead of some sort.

You have type A tuner - which did have those odd connectors, and sorry, cant help you with what they are exactly.

The Type B analogue tuner from late 2000 onwards had the SMA connectors on it.

When I did the D2 project car a few years back I removed all the old Type A tuner cabling and retrofitted Type B aerials and cables just to be on the safe side so when I went digital I knew it would work...

I'm thinking lopping off the connectors and re-ending with SMA could be a good choice....

There's not much room in there and there's no slack in the cables.
They might be "odd" but I'm sure they're a "known" type, I can't believe Audi had them specially made.

I do recall a similar problem with the GPS aerial (same connector?) and in the end I did splice that, but there's loads of slack in the boot lid to play with so less of a problem.
