Default How does the head come off an AVP engine

In my quest to repair this engine, I ve got to the point where I have undone the head bolts and the only thing attached to it is the exhaust manifold....

Do I have to take the exhaust manifold off as well or should it peel off with a tug....I have tried hitting it gently with a rubber mallet and the damn thing wont budge....any suggestions or advice would be appreciated...

Thanks

Ranj

The head is dowelled so you need to free it with vertical force rather than trying to slide it

Are you aware there's a correct sequence for removing head bolts?

Default Sequence for removing bolts

Yes I have the instructions from elsa win...so I removed the bolts in the correct sequence....not sure why though...as the head isnt moving at all....

I ll try pulling up in vertical motion...

Breaking the joint can be a PITA on any engine - it went together a long time ago and been heat soaked plenty of times! Wouldn't surprise me if it needs a good smack to free it off....

Default sealled tight

the valve cover is fairly tightly sealed and needs a couple of whacks to freak....but the head itself I kinda scared of hitting too hard...

I think there must be vacuum seal there and I want to put a flat screwdriver in to break the seal I dont want to damage the joining seals.

Default Plugs

I m sure I took them out already...however for the sake of sanity i will check...
my next step will be my trusty rubber mallet...time to give it some hell after all the trouble it has caused me!!!!!!!!!!

Default The head is off.....good swift hit with a hammer it came off

Well the head is off.....

Now I m in the world of the unknown...can someone tell me if this piston looks ok....the bore wall looks nice n shiny like the other bores.

There are a couple of small scratches at the top but surely that cant do anything bad can it???
