That's what confused me I thought they gave me the rear diff code! I've still not worked it out, I was just checking what others I could use and the internet keeps saying 3.73 final drive for a s8. I thought it was 4.11
And 1st 3.57 2nd 2.2 3rd 1.50 4th 1.00 5 th 0.80 And now I can't find it?

That's because they are both FWD gearboxes

My ebay Elsawin is full of holes. I actually found references both DQS and FRF gearboxes, but when I go into the actual repair manual the entire transmission section is missing. Maybe someone with a better copy of Elsawin can find out. Definitely the list I posted earlier does not cover all A6 01Es.
I could be wrong but at least the DQS transmission appears as an option when I select the A6 2.5 tdi quattro as the vehicle model so it does appear to be a 6 speed. Also found this site, if its accurate it appears to be a 6-speed but with wrong final drive. S8 is definitely 4.111 final, code EUU is 4.111. http://workshop-manuals.com/audi/a4_...nd_capacities/ Last edited by Goran; 23rd March 2017 at 10:27 PM. |

It does say front wheel drive at the top of the chart.
The B7 RS4 ratios seem to suit me top, isn't as overdriven as a tdi 6th but it's a little better than what I've got now. If it fits the same is it still the 01E family? Or is 01A that different

The B7 gearbox is an 0A3 and shares virtually nothing with the 01E apart from the shifter mechanism. I have a one from a 3.0TDI in the workshop, bought cheap out of curiosity. Its longer (so custom propshaft), the diff is offset differently (so custom driveshafts), it has no provision for mounts on the side (so custom mounting solution) and it has no speedo output as it comes from the ABS in those models (so GPS or some other custom solution). It would require a substantial amount of work to put in a D2 - possible, but just not worth it. You'd be better off building an 01E with custom ratios.

Something like this might help with the propshaft:
http://audis4parts.com/audi-a6-tip-t...eshaft-spacer/ I'm not sure whether the 5HP19FLA and 5HP24A are the same length, but as that piece supposedly fits A6 and RS6 that implies they are, meaning the piece should work for us too. I'll measure a 5HP24A and an 01E over the weekend and see what the difference is |

The B5 S4 guys over on audisrs have done a 01E to 0A3 swap. Or rather MRC did the swap for them. Apparently its a much smoother box. Had I read this before when I had my gearbox out for a clutch replacement I would have gone for such a swap. The only downside is the high 6th gear. I would prefer 0.56 http://audisrs.com/ftopic31541-0-asc-0.php Quote:
