Default Fixing Soft Close

Softclose on two doors is not working but its making noises like it wants to.

When I'm home I'm going to spray some grease in to the hinges and see if that makes a difference.

I'm having to strip the door cards down at some point, so I might as well try and fix my soft close.

Has anyone got any recomendations on trying to fix the soft close?
I've not stripped, clean or seen a soft close mech before.

Mine seems to have done the same on the two fronts, the mechanism sounds like it's working, but usually after you open the door.

Mines the drivers side.
The drivers door started making a noise in the last 2 weeks. The rear door is hardly ever opened but its started making a noise as well.

Stripped the door cards down to fit new window switches and had a look at the soft close.

Unplugging and plugging the units in causes them to kick in to life and do what they are meant to for one turn but they don't do it when connected.

Plug them in they spin in, pulling the door in, then spin out to release the cable.
But when connected to the door and simulating the door half catching they do nothing.
Even when opening they dont spin but they work when plugged in.

So is it not receiving a signal to say then door is open from a pin switch or a control unit?

Digging up another old thread to try and get some answers for another question.

Did you manage to fix your soft close issue or did you have to replace the motor? Are the motors the same on all doors? My drivers front and passenger rear aren't working

...have the same issues on my driver's door... no sound though that motor works .

all other [hardly used doors] work absolutely fine.

How easy is it to strip the door card?

Its very easy to strip the door cards don't be afraid, get stuck into the manual from the tech dump and you will know where to start, or look at youtube it has videos for removing A8 door cards

As for the soft close, I went down the same route as Scott and it seems like the door latch has a dodgy switch as the motor works fine when disconnected and reconnected for one cycle.

I just received a new latch today from TPS and will fit in due course and update accordingly.

How much was the new latch just out of interest Del?

Just an FYI. .. fitting the new latch is not a 5 min job... it involves taking the glass out and drilling rivets out of the aluminium skin and taking the window frame off and splitting the door into 3 core sections ...

I'd highly recommend changing the triangle black bits that corrode at the same time, as you need to strip the door for this also

If it's the front doors of course they don't have them.

If the motor is working it's usually the micro switch in the catch that fails.

I'd be interested in finding an easyer way of doing it that's for sure .. my rear drivers packed up only 3 weeks ago... I was desperately hoping it was the motor ... no such luck sadly
