2000 D2 2.8 Sport Facelift Dashboard Pixelation?

Hi all
My dashboard clock and mileometer displays are fine on start up, but pixelate after a period of driving, becoming unreadable. The main central display is fine.
My research so far appears to suggest there is no simple fix and the whole instrument cluster would need to be replaced. Is that correct? Any other possible solutions at all? Thanks
