I just love the complete contrast between the totally confident way that started up compared to the (obviously staged) failures and quick-fix recovery after a silly error (e.g. distributor wired in the wrong sequence, or fuel pump wiring broken) you see on Car SOS!

MJ put it all together correctly then just turned the key and of course it started immediately and ran smoothly.

2003 D2 FL S8. Irish Green Pearl/Beige. Solar sunroof, auto-dim mirrors, electric rear seat functions, ski hatch retrofit; extended leather. Aftermarket DVB-T, reversing camera and full XCarlink (Bluetooth etc.).
2016 Volvo V40 T5 Cross Country (4WD) with ALL the toys including adaptive cruise etc. etc. Osmium Grey with Blonde/Charcoal leather interior. Polestar performance "optimisation". (A much rarer model than a D2 S8 by the way!) Oh, and a brand new engine at just under 30,000 miles on the factory one!
Finally: gone, but not forgotten.....
1998 D2 PF S8. AgateGrey/Platinum. Every option (I think) except electric rear seats, tiptronic steering wheel, ski hatch, towbar & dimming door mirrors.
e.g. Cruise control, NavPlus/TV, Bose, GSM, Xenons, Solar roof, Parking sensors, Alcantara/leather everywhere of course. (internal dimming mirror added later)
1998 (very early) Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec; ABS/TCS, Heated screen/mirrors, Aircon, Auto-dim mirror, Leather, Trip computer, Cruise control, OEM Ford SatNav with CD changer.
And before that a lot of Rover 800s, a few oddities, a lovely Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with Overdrive and way back in my schooldays an Austin Seven aka Mini 850!

I'll never get a Discovery TV show if I don't panic about a few seconds of cranking while it builds fuel pressure

Or indeed, if I manually prime the fuel system beforehand using a special jumper cable I made for that exact purpose

Just a note from me to thank you from us for contributing in such detail this, and other rebuilds.

Quality content such as this is what makes the forum interesting now, and for years to come. I know the parts guys look after you day to day, but they don’t necessarily quite see the level of contribution you make here too, so thanks...

It’s 13 years since I got my first D2 (it was still under warranty!) and I’ve seen a heck of a lot of D2’s in my days, but every time you still manage to deliver something new I’ve not seen.

Not sure how you’re going to top a left hand drive, pelican blue manual S8 with aux heater brand new engine swap though..... .......

The 17 year old Driver Wagon 2015 Skoda Citigo Monte Carlo. Alloys, Power steering, Aircon, Leccy windows, Sat Nav, bluetooth, central locking, cup holders, 59 whole bhp. Million times better than my first car. Well jealous.....

I agree, the thread is excellent, interesting and superbly done.

Some of the best content because it shows the details, problems and resolutions which is excellent.

My D2 S8 is at 197,000 miles now and the full works at 200,000 would be an honour.

Well I never thought I'd top anything of yours Ian, but I can that!
It's 16 years since I got my first D2 and that was also under Audi (extended) warranty.

Though it did end up as one of the very many ones that have passed through your fleet!

Only 9 years for me, so I'm a beginner really. I wonder who's had theirs the longest though? I don't want to hijack this thread though, which is truly excellent, so maybe there will be another one for longest lasting ownership...

17 years since my first - a '99 3.7q bought at only 2 years old.

Lots of progress tonight but not many photos sorry!

Fitted new front brake hoses and bled the brakes, then adjusted the shifter and went for a drive round the yard to make sure everything is working properly.

Fixed a broken headlight tab

then put the bumper back on and the rest of the front end and completely forgot to take any more pics

The rest of the evening was spent trying to track down a curious electrical problem whereby if you open one door, the car thinks all the doors are open. It also randomly thinks the back doors are open when they're not.

65 pages of wiring diagrams to study, just for the central locking and instrument cluster

I had a similar issue on one occasion. It was after disconnecting the battery. It seemed to go (IIRC) when I dis/re-connected the battery again.
Hope your is a similar easy fix.
