No you're right it's nothing to do with it, After taking a few bits off uder the bonnet, swapping amps and not getting anywhere i trusted my gut and borrowed half a plastic can of fuel and she's alive, the really friendly guy went and filled it again and we put that in too.
I was thinking that the guage might be telling lies but i've filled up this morning and only got 38 litres in, smeling a bit of fuel on my way to work. Parked up and got out and it's running out. It's coming from the "bottle top" so i'm assuming i didn't get it right the 3rd time i've had a go at it and the pump assy moved inside the tank and now the top isn't sealing properly.

It depends really how you consider easy, if you have a double jointed elbow or can see through plastic fuel tanks or have an endoscope then not really. However i have none of these and have found it really difficult to get the fuel pump module back in and seated 100% 4 hours i was in the boot last time determined to get it right, it would then go all the way to the red before running out. Something must have moved inside the tank now and i'm back to running out at 1/2 and leaving petrol behind if i brim it

sounds like a pain in the .... but better than spending a tin of money on engine repairs etc.
Hope you get it sorted soon, once you have it will be worthwhile running vcds again to see if there are other issues. Del |

You've made me go all light headed just at the thought of spending money on it.

I have done pumps on three 8's , 2 replacing and 1 reseating where it was not done correctly by somebody else. I definitely got 2 of them right and I think 3rd one should be fine as well otherwise Amar would be would be on my back asking to come back and do it properly if it was not right. I have done couple of A6's as well replacement and also reseating somebody else job.
No scopes, no mirrors or x-ray vision, just a bit of patience, take it slow and follow the ETKA instructions. Close your eyes and let the feeling guide you. May the Force be with you.

I gave up when I was doing mine and bought an endoscope, well worth it for the confidence factor as it's a PITA to do.

Well i went with the ETKA instructions and the "Force" on friday morining and all went well. Makes a huge difference having some insturctions to follow. I went on a 200 mile run last night and it hasn't run out of fuel yet. So i suppose i'm back to testing to see where it'll run out.
So 4 attempts and i'm hopefull this time.
