Default In for some work

My beloved S8 is in the dealer's having some work done, namely 'that' transfer box oil seal, which was starting to annoy me with the smell if the car was driven 'enthusiastically', or in the last week, smoking if driven hard - so hopefully no more of that.
The other job is having the front discs/ pads replaced, as quite honestly, they looked a little past their sell by date when I bought the car a year ago, although I did the back ones first as they wore out fairly soon after I got the 8.
They hadn't finished the work this evening, so I've still got a brand new S-line A4 as a courtesy car (free of charge) with a petrol turbocharged engine this time. Must say that it feels more 'planted' and responsive than the 2.0 TDi Avant I had last time, and the seats are much nicer too......

but I still couldn't live with one, I feel like I have to be an olympic gymnast (read as contortionist) to access or egress the vehicle, its a sort of backside on the seat, then get a knee in, then swivel in whilst bending forwards at an unnatural angle trying to avoid taking a chunk out of the stitched leather steering wheel with ones teeth, trying to miss a concussion on the roofline, or injuring a shoulder on the b pillar in the process.

Its a nice enough car once inside, with enough space for my size 13's to operate the pedals safely (unlike the last 3 series I drove) and it feels nicely competent and well built, on the road, but its just too small for someone of my build and for that reason I just couldn't live with one. Nice courtesy car though.

It was the 1.8TFSI engined A4 B8 S-Line, in silver too, much more civilised than the TDi. My Mrs hated the S-Line because she could feel every bump in the road. I thought that it was a much more responsive and communicative drive and cornered far better than the TDi.

Strangely enough, the Mrs was yelling in a terrified manner in the A4, much to my puzzlement, especially when I explained when I took the same bends some 30 - 40mph faster in the S8, she doesn't moan...... just can't win...

As you say MA8tey, the A4 (S-Line) feels solid & nicely built, and is pretty comfortable once you're in it (with the seat at the bottom of its travel!) and is quite an engaging drive on the local 'twisties'.

Anyway I got the 8 back this evening, and promptly went out and put on 60 miles to bed the brakes in (well that's my excuse ) around the local lanes and beaches.
They had to get a couple of new exhaust brackets as well, I was quite pleased with the cost as they'd done the front discs & pads, 2 seals on the transfer box and it came to just over £560, about £100 less than I was anticipating.
I was not disappointed, no more oily stench, and the car is significantly quieter at the front end.
