Hey there,
Actualy i think Laminated is better as the plastic film reduces uv as well as helping block sound and keep temperatures. It is also a *lot* harder to break, also reduces penetration, so helps stop projectiles, be that in an accident or bullet proof glass (the standard 8 isn't, but...) Double glazing has a gap, laminated fills that gap with special plastic layer.

ok, well for my two penneth I've always noted that Audi referred to it as 'twin pane' but I personally refer to it as 'double glazing' to most normal folks as twin pane means bugga all to most people outside the A8 community !!
I agree that double glazing should probably have a gap (I think the Mercs do?) and we dont have that.... Anyway, what ever its called, its a good thing to have. Yes, it does add weight, and a noticable amount of weight at that, but it does slow down most smash and grab theives (sorry Darren, yours was obviously more keen!) and it really does reduce road noise.... Try driving an A8 without twin pane and you will really notice the road noise...  Plus I guess if you were unlucky enough to roll it or slam it sideways into something, its nice to think the glass wont just shatter everywhere....

Twin pane was standard on all V8's on the D2 shape, optional on the 2.8 and we have retro-fitted it to 2.8's in the past.
Note the rear screen is also twin pane, unless you have factory TV, then you get a single pane rear screen instead....
