A few winter jobs on the old girl
Well the MOT is done and the old girl has been serviced again for another year by the local specialist.
A couple of small jobs need doing that I want to do to keep the car perfect. The Cam Cover gaskets are pretty good but one is getting a little weepy so I am going to replace both of them to ensure everything is perfect. 077 198 025 seems to be the right part for a FL 4.2, apart from eBay where is the best price/ place people have found them for? |

All features as the '01, with the 'S' mode auto shifter. Dodgey rear tint (need to find a way to get rid of that). Weepy?
Hi,
I have a very slight engine oil weep tfrom the top of my 3.7: is that the kind of "weepy" here? Mine is a running leak from the top end, 30 ml at a time... Robert

Now its been a few years since I replaced one but it should be straight forward enough.
Is the current wisdom to use a little sealant on one or both or the surfaces or just rely on cleaning it all and purely the new gasket? Regards. |

The rubber gasket itself will seal Ok when torqued down, but I think a dab of sealant on the sharp corners is what guys usually do - I don't recall what I did to mine a couple of years back... I seem to recall mention of sealing the half moon seals if they're used too (mine didn't use those).
I can't recall what I did to secure the rings for the spark plugs if anything.

The engine workshop manual is in here
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=9345 Full write up in removing and replacing rocker cover gaskets and where to put sealant. My rebulid 'kit' came with 2 ebay gasket sets. Included the half moon seals, centre bolt seals and spark plug holder seals. Pretty straight forward fit and not a drop of oil leaked do far
